Overview
Inorca Seating is a Colombian manufacturer of seating and contract furniture, headquartered in Santiago de Cali. The company traces its origins to around 1950, when Enrique Ramírez, owner of a small chain of local cinemas in Colombia, suffered a fire in one of his theaters in the municipality of Florida. To repair the damage, Ramírez began making seats for his own theater, an activity that grew into a business. In 1956 the company was formally established as Industrias Nortecaucanas to provide chairs for local theaters. Over the following decades it expanded into seating for public transport vehicles and became an original equipment manufacturer of vehicle components, later adding flexible manufacturing processes through CNC technology and beginning exports to other countries in the continent. Today Inorca designs, manufactures and installs seats for cinemas, auditoriums, performing arts centers, premium venues, transport and other spaces. Its product portfolio includes seating, tables, soft seating and complements, with table lines such as Zuma, Viko, Tera, Samba, Maya, Juno, Gora, Cubo and Bela. The company operates four manufacturing facilities and describes itself as vertically integrated across metal-mechanic, painting, plastic and foam injection, upholstery and carpentry processes. It reports over 5,000 delivered projects, more than 2,000,000 manufactured products, a workforce of over 65 years of accumulated experience, and a presence in four continents. Its website highlights projects such as Voyagers Bible Church in Irvine, California, The Arc Cinema in Navan, Ireland, and Hotel Reina del Mar in San Andrés, Colombia. Inorca positions itself around "the smartest seating experience," combining ergonomics, efficiency, appearance, durability and cost for cinema operators, and quality, design, comfort and versatility for auditorium clients. The company markets premium auditorium seating for performing arts centers and premium venues, and offers project quotation services for cinema investments. It remains a private, family-origin Colombian company with an export-oriented business, serving clients across the Americas, Europe and beyond.
History
Inorca Seating's history begins around 1950, when Enrique Ramírez, owner of a small chain of local cinemas in Colombia, suffered a fire in one of his cinemas located in the municipality of Florida. The fire caused serious damage to the theater and its seats. Faced with the need to repair the damage, Ramírez decided to venture into the seating business, starting with his own theater in Florida. This activity later extended to the automotive industry that was arriving in the country. In 1956, the company was formally born as Industrias Nortecaucanas, dedicated to providing chairs for local theaters. A decade later, in 1966, it became an original equipment manufacturer of vehicle components, and by 1986 it was manufacturing chairs for public transport vehicles. In 2002 the company began exporting to different countries in the continent, and in 2006 it incorporated flexible manufacturing processes through CNC technology. Further expansion came in 2015 with the in-house incorporation of plastic injection processes and the creation of the Contract Furniture line. In 2019 the company achieved a new historical record on export numbers. In 2020 it added laser cut technology. Throughout this period, the company continued to describe itself as having over 65 years of experience designing, manufacturing and installing seats all over the world, with a leadership position in its national market and a high-ranked presence on four continents. Today Inorca operates four manufacturing facilities with the production capacity and ability to vertically integrate metal-mechanic, painting, plastic and foam injection, upholstery, and carpentry processes. It reports over 5,000 delivered projects, more than 2,000,000 manufactured products, and a workforce built on decades of accumulated experience. Its project portfolio includes installations such as Voyagers Bible Church in Irvine, California; The Arc Cinema in Navan, Ireland; and Hotel Reina del Mar in San Andrés, Colombia.
