History
Instituição Toledo de Ensino (ITE) was founded on 21 April 1950 by Professor Antônio Eufrásio de Toledo, initially as Escola Técnica de Bauru, offering courses in Industrial Chemistry and Bridges, Roads and Buildings. In 1951, the Faculdade de Direito de Bauru (Bauru Law School) was created, with Dr. Ulysses Guimarães as its first director. The following year, the Physical Education School was inaugurated. The building housing both courses was located at Rua Antônio Alves, 9-72, in central Bauru. Later, Comendador Daniel Pacífico donated land for the construction of the buildings that would house ITE, initiating a broader educational project of interiorization of higher education. In 1959, the Faculdade de Ciências Econômicas (School of Economic Sciences) was created, followed by the Faculdade de Serviço Social (School of Social Work) in 1963. In October 1968, ITE inaugurated its Centro de Pós-Graduação (CPG) to improve its faculty and bring regional professionals closer to academia. In February 2004, the Ministry of Education authorized new courses in Administration with emphasis in Information Systems, Administration with emphasis in Foreign Trade, Aeronautical Sciences with Commercial Pilot qualification, Real Estate Business Management, and Small and Medium Enterprise Management. In February 2006, a new ITE campus opened in Botucatu, São Paulo, initially offering Law, Administration, and Administration with emphases. In 2010, the institution became the Centro Universitário de Bauru. Over the years, ITE has expanded its academic offerings and gained recognition. Its distance-learning courses received a maximum score of 5 from MEC, and its Law program received a score of 5 from CAPES. In 2017, the Law postgraduate program received a score of 2 from CAPES, below the recommended level, but after an appeal, the score was corrected to 4. The institution has also been ranked among the top 140 universities in Brazil by the Folha de S.Paulo University Ranking in 2019, and was the 11th best in São Paulo state. ITE continues to operate campuses in Bauru and Botucatu, offering a range of undergraduate, technological, extension, and postgraduate programs.
