History
Institute of Nuclear Safety System, Inc. was established in March 1992. According to its official greeting, the trigger was the steam generator tube rupture accident at Kansai Electric Power's Mihama Power Station Unit 2. Based on the lessons of that accident, it was founded with two pillars: a Social System Research Institute pursuing safety and trust through human and social sciences, and a Technical System Research Institute pursuing improvement of safety technology and the safety and reliability of nuclear power generation. It has conducted research for over 30 years under the basic philosophy of contributing to the further improvement of the safety and reliability of nuclear power generation and to better harmony with society and the environment. After the Tokyo Electric Power Fukushima Daiichi accident, and amid recent moves toward green transformation (GX), the institute states it will continue high-level research in cooperation with domestic and overseas research institutions and universities, and will fulfill a cooperative role using its specialized knowledge, including proposals from an independent, third-party standpoint.
