Overview

Instituto Nina Rosa (INR) is a Brazilian organization whose activities began in 2000, focused on humanitarian education projects. After two decades of work, it took a further step in its journey: ensuring that as many wild animals as possible — rescued and rehabilitated by CETAS (Wild Animal Screening Center) of IBAMA — are released. To this end, INR is part of the ASAS project (Wild Animal Release Area), in partnership with CETAS. ASAS Nina Rosa is part of the RPPN Nina Rosa (Private Natural Heritage Reserve), recognized in 2023 by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), permanently dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the fauna and flora of the Atlantic Forest. Between 2022 and 2026, releases of more than one thousand six hundred animals of 55 species were carried out, including birds and mammals such as opossums, hedgehogs, coatis, wildcats, sloths, deer, crab-eating foxes, and boa constrictors. INR also promotes the #DEIXAVOAR movement in favor of freedom for animals held in zoos, circuses, live cargo ship holds, puppy mills, breeding facilities, whale and dolphin shows, aquariums, donkey confinements, and other animal prisons.

History

Instituto Nina Rosa (INR) began in 2000, focused on humanitarian education projects. After two decades of activity, INR took another step in its journey: ensuring that the greatest number of wild animals — rescued and rehabilitated by CETAS (Wild Animal Screening Center) of IBAMA — are released. To this end, INR is part of the ASAS project (Wild Animal Release Area), in partnership with CETAS. ASAS aims to send wild animals — from enforcement actions, rescues, or voluntary deliveries by individuals — to accredited areas. It is to this area that CETAS sends some rescued, rehabilitated animals fit to be returned to nature. Between 2022 and 2026, releases of more than one thousand six hundred animals of 55 species were carried out, including birds and mammals such as opossums, hedgehogs, coatis, wildcats, sloths, deer, crab-eating foxes, and boa constrictors. INR also promotes the #DEIXAVOAR movement in favor of freedom.
