Overview
Interflex Datensysteme GmbH is a German company that develops, manufactures and sells integrated hardware and software for access control, visitor management, time recording, time management and personnel scheduling. Founded in Stuttgart in 1974 by Wilhelm ("Willi") Haller, a businessman from the Swabian region who is regarded as one of the pioneers of flextime (Gleitzeit), the company began by building electromechanical time-recording devices based on industrial counters. Its goal was to make it possible to record the hours actually worked so that employees could be given more flexible schedules and more personal responsibility. By the end of the 1970s Interflex was considered the leading provider of electronic time-recording systems in Germany. Today Interflex describes itself as a full-spectrum provider of workforce management and security solutions, offering its own hardware, software and in-house services from a single source, including cloud-based options. Its portfolio covers access control, visitor management, time recording, time management and personnel scheduling, with modular products that are designed and developed in Germany and can be scaled and adapted to individual business requirements. The company states that its solutions are used by approximately 5.8 million employees every day across several thousand system installations worldwide. Interflex has been part of the US industrial group Ingersoll Rand since July 2000; in December 2013 the security business was spun off as Allegion, to which Interflex still belongs. Despite being part of an international group, Interflex emphasizes a "Made in Germany" approach to hardware and software development, with development sites in Erlangen, Karlsruhe and Durchhausen, and its own manufacturing in Durchhausen in Baden-Württemberg. It operates a sales and service network with 12 locations in Germany and further offices in Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands, plus a worldwide network of sales and service partners in 23 countries. In 2021 the company had about 478 employees and generated revenue of around 87.7 million euros (2022 figure for Germany). Interflex has expanded its workforce-management offering through acquisitions, including the Dutch company Workforce IT B.V. in July 2021 and the workforce-management specialist plano in January 2023. It has also been a certified SAP software partner for more than 25 years. Its hardware range includes online and offline terminals for access control and time recording, controllers and gateways, desktop readers and coders for visitor management, biometric identification and verification applications, access monitoring and badge production. A newer product line, Opendor, adds electronic locking components such as locker locks, cylinders, door handles and door fittings based on Bluetooth Low Energy 5 technology.
History
Interflex Datensysteme GmbH was founded in 1974 in Stuttgart by Wilhelm ("Willi") Haller, a businessman from Germany's Swabia region who is regarded as a pioneer of flextime. Haller had brought the idea of flexible working hours to Germany in the late 1960s and developed the first electromechanical time-recording devices, based on industrial counters, to make it possible to record the hours actually worked. Experts told him it could not be done, but he proved them wrong. His view was that flexible working hours would make employees responsible partners in scheduling, so they would be happy with their work, and that working hours could be adjusted to match actual workloads. By the end of the 1970s Interflex was considered the leading provider of electronic time-recording systems in Germany. In July 2000 Interflex became part of the US conglomerate Ingersoll Rand. In December 2013 the security business was spun off as Allegion, and Interflex has belonged to Allegion ever since. Despite being part of an international group, the company has kept a "Made in Germany"-oriented approach to hardware and software development, with development sites in Erlangen, Karlsruhe and Durchhausen, and its own manufacturing in Durchhausen in Baden-Württemberg. It also operates a sales and service network with 12 locations in Germany and further offices in Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands, plus a worldwide network of sales and service partners in 23 countries. In July 2021 Interflex acquired the Dutch company Workforce IT B.V., expanding its service and sales network with workforce management solutions. In January 2023 the workforce management specialist plano also became part of Interflex. In 2021 the company had about 478 employees and generated revenue of around 87.7 million euros (2022 figure for Germany). Interflex has been a certified SAP software partner for more than 25 years. Since 2020 it has offered Managed Services, its own cloud solution for time management, and since 2021 also for access control. The company continues to develop its product range, including the Opendor line of electronic locking components based on Bluetooth Low Energy 5 technology.
