Overview
International Scientific Information, Inc. (ISI) is a scientific and medical publishing company founded in 2002 by Dr. Mark R. Graczynski and Dr. George B. Stefano. Headquartered in New York, USA, the company emerged from the biomedical community with the goal of bringing medicine and basic research disciplines together under one publishing roof. ISI operates as a quality open-access publisher in the medical sciences, producing scholarly journals and offering manuscript management tools for editorial teams. ISI began with a single flagship journal, Medical Science Monitor, and has since expanded to a portfolio of four journals. Its current titles include Clinical Practice Review and Meta-Analysis, established in 2019, and Medical Science Case Reports, which became an independent journal in 2014 after originating as the Case Reports Section of Medical Science Monitor. The company's business model was built on the principle of growing without generating debt, and it has developed a global reach in serving the publishing needs of medical and scientific researchers. Beyond journal publishing, ISI provides JMS, a cloud-based manuscript management environment designed for editors of scholarly journals. JMS covers the full editorial workflow from submission to publication, including preliminary triage, peer review, final decision-making, production integration, copyediting, pre-press preparation, and APC payment management via online credit card and bank-wire transfers. It also supports communication tools such as template and custom emails, messaging systems, journal website management, and social media integration, making it suitable for editorial teams working both in-office and remotely. ISI positions itself as a quality open-access publisher in the medical sciences, with a focus on clinical practice, meta-analysis, and case reports. The company is privately held and continues to operate from its New York base, serving an international community of authors, reviewers, and editorial board members.
History
International Scientific Information, Inc. (ISI) was founded in 2002 by Dr. Mark R. Graczynski and Dr. George B. Stefano, both of whom came from the biomedical community. The founders envisioned a scientific and medical publishing enterprise that would bring medicine and basic research disciplines together under one roof. The company was established in New York, USA, and adopted a business model designed to grow without generating debt. ISI started with a single flagship journal, Medical Science Monitor. Over time, the company expanded its portfolio to four journals. In 2014, Medical Science Case Reports was developed as an independent journal from the Case Reports Section of Medical Science Monitor. In 2019, the company launched Clinical Practice Review and Meta-Analysis, described as its newest scholarly journal aimed at gathering information across all medical fields. Alongside its journals, ISI developed JMS, a cloud-based manuscript management environment for editors of scholarly journals. JMS combines manuscript management tools from submission to publication, including preliminary triage, peer review, and final decision, with production integration such as copyediting, pre-press preparation, and APC payment management using online credit card and bank-wire transfers. It also provides communication tools, journal website management, and social media integration, and is designed for editorial teams working both in-office and remotely. Under the leadership of co-founder Dr. Mark R. Graczynski, who serves as President and C.E.O., ISI has continued to develop and grow. Dr. Graczynski graduated from Warsaw Medical University in Warsaw, Poland, served in the Department of Anesthesiology at Warsaw Medical University from 1987 to 1997, and was an Advisor in the Political Cabinet of the Minister of Health, Poland, from 1997 to 1999. He was granted a Ph.D. in 1994. In 2002, he co-founded the publishing company in New York, recognizing its global potential. The company today employs numerous people with a wide array of expertise and continues to serve the publishing needs of its colleagues in the medical and scientific community.
