Overview

Interpump Group is an Italian industrial machinery company headquartered in Sant'Ilario d'Enza, near Reggio Emilia. Founded in 1977 by Fulvio Montipò, the group began with high-pressure piston pumps and built its early technological reputation around the use of ceramic pistons in place of conventional steel pistons. The innovation was intended to improve pump efficiency, operating performance and reliability, and helped Interpump become a major international supplier of professional high-pressure pumping equipment. The company’s historical core is its Water-Jetting business. This activity includes high-pressure and ultra-high-pressure plunger pumps, water-jetting systems, accessories and related equipment used in industrial cleaning, surface preparation, water treatment, steelmaking, chemicals, petrochemicals, construction and other demanding applications. Through businesses such as Pratissoli Pompe, Hammelmann, General Pump and NLB Corporation, Interpump covers equipment ranging from professional high-pressure pumps to very-high-pressure systems and mobile or trailer-mounted water-jetting machines. Hammelmann’s technologies extend into ultra-high-pressure fluid pumping, while NLB also manufactures and rents water-jetting equipment. Interpump listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in 1996. During the late 1990s it began a major strategic expansion into hydraulics, eventually becoming a leading manufacturer of power take-offs. The group subsequently broadened its portfolio through acquisitions in hydraulic cylinders, pumps, valves, directional control valves, motors, steering systems, hoses, pipes, fittings and hydraulic manifolds. Its hydraulics activities serve mobile machinery, industrial equipment, commercial vehicles, agriculture, construction, material handling and other applications. A further phase of diversification extended the group into flow processing. Acquisitions such as Bertoli, Inoxpa, Mariotti & Pecini, Servizi Industriali, I.Mec and Waikato added equipment for food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and agricultural processing. Products in this area include homogenisers, valves, tanks, rotary lobe pumps, mixers, agitators, separation and clarification systems, mechanical screens and automated milking systems. Interpump also entered power transmission through the acquisition of Reggiana Riduttori, later expanding through Transtecno, DZ Trasmissioni, Berma and Draintech. The portfolio includes reduction gears, right-angle gear drives, screw-jack systems and related transmission products. In 2025, the acquisition of a majority stake in Borghi Assali added hydraulic and electric steering axles for industrial vehicles. The group operates through more than 100 companies and brands in a broad international network. Its main activities are organized around Water-Jetting and Hydraulics, with flow processing and power transmission as important related businesses. Key associated brands and operating companies include Interpump, Pratissoli Pompe, General Pump, Hammelmann, NLB Corporation, Inoxihp, Walvoil, Muncie Power Products, IMM Hydraulics, GS-Hydro, Reggiana Riduttori and Inoxpa. The company describes itself as a global leader in professional high-pressure piston pumps and a significant international player in hydraulics. Its shares trade under the ticker IP.

History

Interpump Group was established in 1977 in Sant'Ilario d'Enza by Fulvio Montipò. Its initial business was based on high-pressure piston pumps, particularly a design using ceramic pistons rather than steel pistons. This engineering choice became central to the company’s identity and helped establish its reputation in professional high-pressure pumping. During the 1990s, Interpump expanded its water-jetting capabilities. The acquisition of Pratissoli Pompe added heavy-duty triplex pumps for industrial applications, while General Pump, acquired in the United States in 1998, reinforced the group’s North American distribution and aftermarket presence. Interpump became a listed company on the Milan Stock Exchange in 1996. The late 1990s brought a strategic move into hydraulics. The group developed a major power-take-off business and subsequently added hydraulic cylinders, pumps, valves, directional control systems, hoses, fittings and steering technologies. During this period, ownership and governance also changed: Fulvio Montipò sold the company to BC Partners before later regaining a significant shareholder and managerial position. In 2009, IPG Holding participated in a capital increase that helped reinforce the shareholder structure. Interpump repositioned its portfolio during the 2000s. In 2005 it acquired Hammelmann, a German specialist in very-high-pressure systems, while disposing of its professional cleaning-machines business. In 2007 it acquired NLB Corporation in the United States, adding the manufacture and rental of trailer-mounted water-jetting equipment. From the 2010s onward, growth increasingly came through acquisitions. Galtech and Hydrocontrol strengthened valves and directional control valves, and Walvoil, acquired in 2014, became an important hydraulics platform. IMM Hydraulics, Tubiflex and Tekno Tubi broadened the hose and fittings portfolio. The 2017 acquisition of international operations of GS-Hydro added non-welded piping systems for oil and gas, industrial and naval applications. The group also built a flow-processing division. Bertoli joined in 2015 with high-pressure homogenisers. Inoxpa and Mariotti & Pecini followed in 2017, adding valves, tanks, rotary lobe pumps, mixers and agitators. Later additions included Servizi Industriali, I.Mec and Waikato, extending the portfolio into separation, clarification, mechanical screening and automated milking systems. Interpump entered power transmission in 2019 through Reggiana Riduttori and later added Transtecno, DZ Trasmissioni, Berma and Draintech. In hydraulics, the acquisition of White Drive Motors & Steering in 2021 added orbital motors and steering systems. In 2025, Reggiana Riduttori acquired 70% of Borghi Assali, extending the group’s industrial-vehicle steering portfolio. Today, Interpump is organized primarily around Water-Jetting and Hydraulics, supported by flow processing and power transmission. It operates through more than 100 companies and brands in 36 countries, serving industrial, mobile-equipment, commercial-vehicle, food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, agricultural, energy and marine applications.
