Overview
Ion Technology Center (ITC) is a Japanese company based in Osaka that provides ion implantation, materials analysis, semiconductor process R&D, and related engineering services. It was established in 2008 as a spin-off successor to the Ion Engineering Research Institute, a third-sector research organization founded in 1988. The company positions itself as a bridge connecting technology, information, and people, with the goal of turning customer needs into concrete solutions. ITC's core services include ion implantation for semiconductor manufacturing, analytical services such as XPS, XRD, XRR, FIB, and TEM, semiconductor process and device prototyping, reliability testing, and R&D support. The company also offers BPO, RPO, and human-resource services centered on manufacturing contracting, staffing, and job placement. It has expanded its equipment base over the years, adding FIB-SEM in 2016, TEM and ion implanters in 2018, and launching new businesses such as ERM, BPO/RPO, R&D services, and semiconductor prototyping in 2021–2022. ITC operates primarily in Japan, with a branch office in Yamanashi and an overseas subsidiary, ITC KOREA, established in 2024. It serves as the Japanese general agent for Probion and iST (Integrated Service Technology), strengthening its service offerings in ion implantation and analysis. The company emphasizes quality management through ISO 9001 and environmental management through the KES system, and has a stated commitment to diversity and human rights. As a privately held company, ITC does not disclose detailed financial information publicly. Its website highlights ongoing research activities, conference presentations, and academic publications, reflecting its engagement with the broader scientific community. The company's mission centers on contributing to social problem-solving through new semiconductor development aimed at reducing power consumption.
History
The history of Ion Technology Center (ITC) begins with its predecessor, the Ion Engineering Research Institute, which was established in 1988 as a third-sector organization. In 2005, TSI, a group company, invested capital and ISO 9001 was introduced. In 2008, Ion Technology Center Co., Ltd. was founded, inheriting the operations of the Ion Engineering Research Institute. In 2012, ITC introduced the KES environmental management system. In 2014, the company began contract mass production using ion implantation. In 2016, it established a Yamanashi branch office and introduced FIB-SEM equipment. In 2018, the company expanded its equipment with TEM and ion implantation machines, and upgraded the Yamanashi branch to a sales office. In 2021, ITC launched a new ERM department. In 2022, it started BPO and RPO services, research and development services, and semiconductor prototyping services. Also in 2022, ITC strengthened its services as the Japanese general agent for Probion. In 2023, it became the Japanese general agent for iST (Integrated Service Technology), enhancing analysis services and starting testing services. In 2024, ITC established an overseas subsidiary, ITC KOREA, and began analysis services there. As of its 15th anniversary, ITC has expanded its business into five main areas: research and development, semiconductor process processing centered on ion implantation, semiconductor device prototyping, new material evaluation and failure analysis, and human resource development including manufacturing contracting, staffing, and job placement. The company aims to contribute to solving social issues through the development of new semiconductors that reduce power consumption.
