Overview

IOU-Ramps is a German manufacturer of indoor and outdoor skateparks, founded in 1988 by carpenter Andreas Schützenberger in Passau. The name IOU stands for "Innovative – Original – Unique" and was originally a fashion brand of the founder. Since 1988 the company has designed and built skateboard ramps and parks, completing more than 7,500 projects in over 30 countries. Clients include private individuals, cities, municipalities, and companies. Notable projects include the Moscow skatepark (Adrenalin Games 2007), the X Games facility in Barcelona (2002), and the Skateboard European Championships in Basel in 2006 and 2007. IOU-Ramps also produces unique structures such as a 21 m wide and 11 m deep ramp for the MegaMiniRamp Contest 2008 at Messe München, and a 60 m long, 20 m wide snow track for the Ispo tow snowboard competition in 2006. In addition to skateparks, the company makes mobile ramps transportable on car trailers, trade fair stands, and "be-skateable" shop fittings. Since 2006 it has also produced snowboard parks under the name IOU-Snow. The company's constructions comply with EN 14974, the standard specifically developed for skate facilities, and are made primarily from larch and birch wood, metal, and hot-dip galvanized steel. The all-weather riding surface Skatesmart was developed in-house. To ensure a comparable safety standard for all facilities, the company is a member of the standards committee. The company is based in Fürstenzell, Germany, and remains privately owned and operated by its founder.

History

IOU-Ramps was founded in 1988 by carpenter Andreas Schützenberger in Passau, Germany. The name IOU stands for "Innovative – Original – Unique" and was originally a fashion brand of the founder. Since 1988, the company has designed and built skateboard ramps and parks, completing over 7,500 projects in more than 30 countries. Clients have included private individuals, cities, municipalities, and companies. Among the best-known parks and events the company has built are the Moscow skatepark (Adrenalin Games 2007), the X Games facility in Barcelona (2002), and the Skateboard European Championships in Basel in 2006 and 2007. IOU-Ramps also produces unique structures, for example for Messe München: for the MegaMiniRamp Contest 2008, a ramp 21 m wide and 11 m deep was built exclusively for the trade fair period. For the snowboard competition Ispo tow in 2006, IOU designed a 60 m long and 20 m wide ground-level snow track featuring various obstacles, rails, boxes, ledges, and a wallride/quarterpipe construction. With the help of two skidoos and a rope, riders were towed to the speed necessary to navigate the course. In addition to skateparks, the company manufactures special constructions such as mobile skate ramps transportable on a car trailer, trade fair stands, and "be-skateable" shop fittings. Since 2006, it has also produced snowboard parks under the name IOU-Snow. The company's constructions are subject to EN 14974, the standard specifically developed for skate facilities, and are made primarily from larch and birch wood, metal, and hot-dip galvanized steel. The all-weather riding surface Skatesmart was also developed in-house. To ensure a comparable safety standard for all facilities, the company is a member of the standards committee.
