Overview

Ir Yamim Mall (Hebrew: קניון עיר ימים) is a major shopping centre located in the Ir Yamim neighbourhood in the south of Netanya, Israel. It is the largest shopping mall in Netanya and one of the largest in the Sharon plain region. The mall was built by the companies Shikun u-Binui and Azorim. Several months after opening, Shikun u-Binui considered selling its stake to the Azrieli Group, but no deal was reached; Azorim also attempted to sell its stake in July 2012, again without success. In 2018 an expansion wing was constructed at an investment of 200 million new Israeli shekels, opening to the public in September 2018. The expansion was built on the site of an above-ground parking lot that had stood at the mall entrance since its opening. To compensate for lost parking spaces near the southern entrance, an additional parking level was built above the existing two-level underground parking garage constructed in 2010. Alongside the expansion, a tower with 12 office floors was built adjacent to the mall. Upon opening, the mall housed many brand stores, restaurants, cafés, bowling lanes and bank branches. The mall's official website describes it as offering a huge variety of about 200 fashion stores of leading brands, unique boutique shops and an abundance of cafés, restaurants and entertainment options across about 35,000 square metres of shopping experience. It is surrounded by green areas, playgrounds and parks and overlooks the Netanya (Ir Yamim) coastline. The mall hosts family events and activities, attractive promotions and a rewards club. Its store categories include underwear, children's wear, fashion, cosmetics and grooming, restaurants and cafés, optics and sunglasses, footwear, housewares and leisure, sports, camping and hiking, jewellery and accessories, entertainment and leisure, electronics and cellular, books and office supplies, and more. The mall also features a tower for events and regular activities such as a Friday food fair, toddler activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays, a mini-chef workshop on Mondays, a creative workshop on Wednesdays, and an artists' fair Sunday to Friday. Shikun u-Binui has expressed interest in building another office tower of about 40 floors next to the mall, though residents have objected due to traffic congestion concerns.

History

Ir Yamim Mall was built by the companies Shikun u-Binui and Azorim. Several months after its opening, Shikun u-Binui planned to sell its stake in the mall to the Azrieli Group, but the deal ultimately did not materialise. In July 2012, Azorim also attempted to sell its stake in the mall, but those negotiations also failed. In 2018, an expansion wing was constructed with an investment of 200 million new Israeli shekels. The new wing opened to the public in September 2018. It was built on the site of an above-ground parking lot that had been located at the mall entrance since its opening. To compensate for the loss of parking spaces near the southern entrance, an additional parking level was built above the existing two-level underground parking garage, which had been constructed in 2010. Along with the expansion, a tower containing 12 office floors was built adjacent to the mall. Upon its opening, the mall featured many brand stores, restaurants, cafés, bowling lanes and bank branches. Shikun u-Binui has expressed interest in building another office tower of about 40 floors in the vicinity of the mall, but this plan has raised objections from residents due to the traffic congestion the tower would create.
