History

Iris Clarke came to the United States from Belize as a teenager during the 1970s. She landed a job at a lingerie shop in Borough Park, Brooklyn, where she taught herself how to fit bras and girdles for women of various sizes. In the late 1980s she left to accept a position at Bloomingdales, where she worked for nine years with brands like Wacoal, La Perla, and Rigby & Peller. After leaving Bloomingdales, she earned a degree in Fashion Merchandising at Kingsborough Community College and worked with Le Mystere, designing some of their most popular bras, one of which was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. She then decided to open her own store, Iris Lingerie, with the mission of giving women of all sizes a properly fitted bra.
