Overview
ISEKI POLY-TECH, INC. (イセキ開発工機株式会社) is a Japanese manufacturer of trenchless construction machinery, specializing in microtunneling systems and pipe-roofing equipment. The company is headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, and has been a wholly owned subsidiary of EXEO Group, Inc. since April 2022. Its core product line, the Unclemole series, covers a wide range of bore diameters — from small-diameter machines up to the ultra-large φ3500 class — and is designed to handle diverse soil conditions, including gravel, thanks to a proprietary eccentric crusher. The company also provides pipe-roofing methods and related construction services, offering a one-stop service from machine manufacturing to construction planning. Founded in 1971 as Miike Engineering Co., Ltd., the company changed its name to Iseki Kaihatsu Koki Co., Ltd. in 1973. It began selling the MEP machine in 1976 and the Telemole in 1977, and entered the pipe-jacking construction field in 1980. The Unclemole was completed in 1984 and became the flagship product. Over the decades, the company established a network of domestic sales offices and overseas subsidiaries, including EURO ISEKI in the UK (1988) and ISEKI, INC. in the USA (1991). It has participated in numerous major infrastructure projects in Japan and abroad, such as the Taipei Songshan Airport pipe-roofing work (1999–2000), the Tokyo Central Circular Shinjuku Line (2003–04), the Central Circular Shinagawa Line (2010–12), the Yokohama North Line (2013–14), the Tokyo Gaikan Expressway (2015–16), and the Kyushu Shinkansen Isahaya Tunnel (2017–18). The company reports cumulative sales of more than 2,500 machines worldwide and has developed its own direct sales routes without relying on trading companies. In 2022, all shares were sold to EXEO Group, making it a 100% subsidiary. The company celebrated its 55th anniversary in 2026. It continues to exhibit at industry events such as Trenchless Asia and the Japan Sewage Works Exhibition, and remains active in the global trenchless technology market.
History
ISEKI POLY-TECH, INC. was established in 1971 under the name Miike Engineering Co., Ltd. (㈱三池エンジニアリング). In 1973, the company changed its trade name to Iseki Kaihatsu Koki Co., Ltd. (㈱イセキ開発工機). The Tokyo factory was opened in 1976, the same year the first MEP machine was sold. In 1977, the Osaka sales office was established and the first Telemole was sold. By the end of the 1970s, cumulative sales included 56 MEP machines and 27 Telemole machines. In 1980, the company entered the pipe-jacking construction field and opened the Kyushu sales office. The Crunching Mole was completed in 1981. In 1983, the Hokkaido sales office and Yachiyo factory were opened. The Unclemole was completed in 1984, marking a major product milestone. By that time, cumulative sales included 112 MEP, 69 Telemole, 83 Crunching Mole, and 19 other machines. In the 1990s, the company expanded further: the Nihonbara factory opened in 1990, along with the Nagoya sales office; the Unclemole Super and replacement-type excavator were completed. In 1991, ISEKI, INC. was established in the USA, the Miyoshi factory opened, and the Unclemole Z was completed. Cumulative sales by the mid-1990s included 399 Unclemole, 223 Unclemole Super, 416 Unclemole V, and 255 other machines. From 1999 to 2000, the company carried out pipe-roofing work at Taipei Songshan Airport in Taiwan (φ812, L=100m×72 units, L=74m×83 units). In 2000, Nihon No-Dig was transferred to another company and ISEKI, INC. (USA) ceased operations. In 2003, Nishi-Nihon Kikai was established, EURO ISEKI (UK) was closed, and a European regional distributorship agreement was signed with AGE. From 2003 to 2004, pipe-roofing work was performed on the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway Central Circular Shinjuku Line. In 2005, pipe-roofing was carried out between Yoyogi-Uehara and Umegaoka stations. Sales in the 2000s included 12 Unclemole, 56 Unclemole Super, 64 Unclemole Mini, 30 Unclemole V, and 7 other machines. In 2010, the European distributorship was changed from AGC to Specialist Plant Associates LTD. From 2010 to 2012, pipe-roofing was performed on the Central Circular Shinagawa Line shield tunnel project. From 2013 to 2014, pipe-roofing was carried out on the Yokohama North Line. In 2015, pipe-roofing was performed on the Tokyo Gaikan Expressway Ichikawa-Naka section, and from 2015 to 2016 on the Tajiri section.
