Overview

The Istituto Universitario Salesiano Venezia (IUSVE) is a private higher education institution in Italy, promoted and managed by the Salesians of Don Bosco of the Italy North-East province. It operates two campuses, one in Venice (Gazzera/Mestre) and one in Verona, and is aggregated to the Faculty of Education Sciences of the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome, which awards its academic titles and degrees. IUSVE was formally established under its current name with the 2011-2012 academic year, following a long process that began with the Istituto Superiore Internazionale Salesiano di Ricerca Educativa (ISRE) on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice in the 1990s, and continued through the Scuola Superiore Internazionale di Scienze della Formazione (SISF), which moved to Mestre in 2004. The institute is organized into three departments: Communication (Venice and Verona), Pedagogy (Venice) and Psychology (Venice). It offers Baccalaureate and Licentiate courses in the areas of Psychology, Pedagogy and Communication and Education, as well as post-graduate academic programs (first- and second-level diplomas and advanced courses) awarded by the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome, and additional higher education courses and research projects. IUSVE is part of the Salesian network of Institutions of Higher Education (IUS), Christian-inspired, Catholic in character and Salesian in spirit, guided by the values of the Gospel and the educational principles of Saint John Bosco (1815-1888). Legally, IUSVE is managed by the Istituto Universitario Salesiano (IUS), an ecclesiastical entity with legal personality approved by decree of the Italian Ministry of the Interior on 19 January 2012. The institute publishes its own journal, IUSVEducation, and hosts the IUSVE university press, which produces texts for students, graduates and teachers. Its website highlights a range of academic and public events, including conferences on inclusion, psychotherapy models, design futures, and student well-being, reflecting an active engagement with contemporary educational, psychological and social issues.

History

The origins of IUSVE lie in the 1990s, when the Istituto Superiore Internazionale Salesiano di Ricerca Educativa (ISRE) was founded on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. Its purpose was to promote study and research for the advanced training of experts in the educational field. In May 1994, the Scuola Superiore Internazionale di Scienze della Formazione (SISF) was created within the institute, with the aim of launching new academic activities. In 2004, ten years later, the SISF moved to its current location in Mestre, expanding its academic offer with new courses of baccalaureate, licentiate, three-year and master's degrees. Finally, in 2011, the school took its present name, Istituto Universitario Salesiano Venezia (IUSVE), with campuses in Venice and Verona. The institute was formally established with the 2011-2012 academic year. It is managed by the Istituto Universitario Salesiano (IUS), an ecclesiastical entity with legal personality approved by decree of the Italian Ministry of the Interior on 19 January 2012. IUSVE is aggregated to the Faculty of Education Sciences of the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome, which awards its academic titles and degrees. The Pontifical Salesian University is a pontifical university dependent on the Holy See, canonically erected by the Congregation for Catholic Education and legally recognized by the Italian State for the issuance of university degrees and higher academic titles. IUSVE is part of the Salesian network of Institutions of Higher Education (IUS), Christian-inspired, Catholic in character and Salesian in spirit. Its value horizon is defined by the truth of the Gospel and inspired by the principles and educational work of Saint John Bosco (1815-1888), guiding its educational action in curriculum development and dialogue with contemporary culture.
