Overview

Italia 7 Toscana is an Italian regional television network headquartered in Florence. It was originally launched in 1977 as Tele 37 and was later renamed Italia 7 Toscana in the early 1990s. The channel has historically been affiliated with national television circuits such as Italia 7 and 7 Gold, and since 2024 it has been part of the Netweek circuit. The broadcaster airs a mix of regional news, sports coverage, and entertainment programming, including its flagship TGT newscast and Platinum Calcio sports shows. Its signal reaches Tuscany, Umbria, and limited areas of Lazio and Liguria. In 2018 the concessionary company Il Gelsomino Srl went bankrupt, and the channel was acquired by Gruppo Sciscione through a bankruptcy auction, securing valuable channel numbers (LCN 17 in Tuscany and LCN 19 in Umbria).

History

Italia 7 Toscana was founded in 1977 as Tele 37, a regional television channel based in Florence. The channel was part of the Il Gelsomino Srl group, which also owned Rete 37 and later 8 Toscana. From October 1987 to 1996, Tele 37 was affiliated with the national Italia 7 circuit, broadcasting its content for Tuscany and Umbria. In the early 1990s, the channel changed its name to Italia 7 Toscana. In 1996, the group of entrepreneur Francesco Di Stefano acquired Teleregione Toscana and affiliated it with the Italia 7 network, replacing Italia 7 Toscana. Subsequently, Italia 7 Toscana joined the new national 7 Gold circuit and continued to air its programs, including films from cinema cycles, until August 26, 2008, when the affiliation ceased and TVR Teleitalia took over the affiliation. From that day, the channel dedicated itself exclusively to independent programming. Between October 2010 and June 25, 2013, it was also visible on Sky channel 517 in the "Sky TV" package. In early July 2018, the concessionary company Il Gelsomino Srl declared bankruptcy. During the bankruptcy auction held on July 31, the company was purchased by Gruppo Sciscione, which acquired Italia 7 Toscana along with its prestigious LCN 17 in Tuscany and LCN 19 in Umbria, other minor interregional television brands, and the multiplexes owned in the two regions, including frequencies, equipment, and sites. The broadcaster transmits its signal in Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio (limited to the province of Viterbo), and Liguria (limited to the province of La Spezia). Since 2024, it has been part of the Netweek circuit.
