Overview

Ivar's is a Pacific Northwest seafood restaurant group that began in 1938 when Ivar Haglund sold fish 'n chips on Seattle's waterfront. It operates 18 fast casual Seafood Bars, three full-service waterfront-view restaurants (Ivar's Acres of Clams, Ivar's Salmon House, and Ivar's Mukilteo Landing), and stadium concessions at T-Mobile Park, Lumen Field, Cheney Stadium, and Husky Stadium.

History

Ivar's began in 1938 when Ivar Haglund, a 33-year-old Seattle native, opened the city's first aquarium on Seattle's Pier 54. Noticing that his patrons often came with an appetite, Haglund began to sell red clam chowder and fish n' chips from the site, an instant success that began his career as a restaurateur. Haglund, described as a Norwegian/Swede locally known as a folksinger before a fish 'n chips purveyor, spread the word about his aquarium and seafood bar by performing in educational and entertainment programs at nearby schools and staged attention-grabbing spectacles such as octopus wrestling and clam eating contests on the Seattle waterfront. From its early beginnings with Ivar Haglund selling fish 'n chips on Seattle's waterfront in 1938, Ivar's has expanded to Marysville and Tacoma, plus a few clam beds in between. The Ivar's dining experience offers 18 fast casual Seafood Bars and three full-service waterfront-view restaurants: Ivar's Acres of Clams, Ivar's Salmon House, and Ivar's Mukilteo Landing. Ivar's also operates stadium concessions in T-Mobile Park, Lumen Field, Cheney Stadium, and Husky Stadium. Ivar's Acres of Clams, on Pier 54 of Seattle's historic waterfront, is described as the flagship where it all began in 1938.
