History

JAF-Group was founded in 1948 by Josef and Antonia Frischeis in Stockerau, Lower Austria. The couple started a timber and wood product trading company after the Second World War. Josef Frischeis had been unable to take over his parents' farm due to a childhood illness and searched for an alternative source of income, which he found in timber trading. The company began business on 26 November 1948 after a trading license for timber and wood products was granted. Antonia Frischeis kept a close eye on the finances, and together the couple established a country-wide network of branches. After the opening of a number of smaller outlets in the vicinity, the first two Austrian branches outside the Stockerau headquarters opened in 1959 in Linz and Bad Hof Gastein. Further branches were established in Austria between 1959 and 1986. Following the death of his father in 1978, son Johann took over the management of the group and guided the company into an era of international growth. He was supported by his mother, Antonia, who remained closely tied to the company until her death in 2012 at the age of 90. Over more than 75 years, JAF has grown far beyond the borders of Austria. The company is now represented with 75 locations in Europe and Asia. It describes itself as an international timber wholesaler, deeply rooted in the regions around its locations and at home all over the world as JAF Global within the international back-to-back business. The group serves the wood processing trade, the construction industry and resale customers, and it emphasises logistics competence, modern production facilities and digital solutions. Today JAF-Group is managed by Werner Stix, Miroslav Malženický, Dr. Wilfrid Fabjani and David Brenner, with almost 3,000 employees worldwide. The company's stated values are respect, nature, quality, growth and joy.
