Overview

Jan Krediet is a Dutch logistics service provider with a history dating back to 1924, when it was founded by its namesake Jan Krediet in the Frisian village of Noordwolde. The company began with courier services and the transport of rattan furniture, growing into a link in the supply chain of the furniture industry. After the Second World War, the founder's sons Jan, Roelof and Jelke took over, and by the early 1970s the company had grown to nearly one hundred employees. A major turning point came in 1975 with the acquisition of the furniture transport company Van Dijk in Culemborg, which enabled efficient nationwide service. In 2002 a new head office was opened in Steenwijk, Overijssel. After a period of difficulty and a bankruptcy in December 2013, the company made a restart days later. It expanded with a branch in Venlo in 2016 and received the TLN Ondernemersprijs 2017 in the 'Large Enterprises' category. In June 2023 Jan Krediet was acquired by the American logistics company Logistics Plus, following a long cooperation that began in 2016. At the time of the acquisition, the company had an annual turnover of forty million euros and employed over one hundred people. Jan Krediet continues to operate under its own name and celebrated its centenary in 2024. Today Jan Krediet presents itself as a full-service logistics partner, offering transport, warehousing, e-fulfilment, cross-docking, B2B and B2C distribution, project management, assembly, installation, return logistics, customs and fiscal matters, and value-added logistics. Its core specialisations remain furniture transport, kitchen transport, general cargo transport, projects, warehousing and contract logistics. The company operates from offices and warehouses in the Netherlands and beyond, serving customers worldwide.

History

Jan Krediet was founded in 1924 by its namesake, Jan Krediet, in the Frisian village of Noordwolde, a place known at the time for its rattan industry and nicknamed the 'braiding village of the Netherlands'. The company started with courier services and the transport of rattan furniture, growing into a link in the supply chain of the furniture industry. After the Second World War, the founder's sons Jan, Roelof and Jelke took over from their father. By the early 1970s the company had grown into an enterprise with nearly one hundred employees. A major change came in 1975 when the furniture transport company Van Dijk from Culemborg, then with about 28 employees, was acquired. Thanks to its very central location, it suddenly became possible to serve almost the entire country efficiently. In that period the customer base grew to around 180 shippers, divided among furniture groupage, factories and contract transport at home and abroad. In 1985 the company made the news after the FNV union planned to file an injunction against the company because of plans to move a large part of its main establishment in Friesland to Culemborg, which would have very adverse consequences for a large number of employees. In 2002 the company decided to open a new head office in Steenwijk, Overijssel. In 2013 the company ran into heavy weather due to a recession and a downturn in the housing market, and in December of that year bankruptcy was pronounced. At that time the company had an annual turnover of fifteen million euros and was market leader in furniture and kitchen transport in the Benelux. A few days after the bankruptcy, a restart was made. In March 2016 activities were expanded with the opening of a branch in Venlo. In November 2016 Jan Krediet received the TLN Ondernemersprijs 2017 in the category 'Large Enterprises'. In June 2023 the company was acquired by the American logistics company Logistics Plus. The acquisition followed a long cooperation between the two companies that had already begun in 2016. At the time of the acquisition, the company had an annual turnover of forty million euros and employed over one hundred people. Jan Krediet continued to operate under its own name afterwards. In 2024 Jan Krediet celebrated its centenary.
