Overview

The Jenny Lake Visitor Center is a National Park Service visitor facility in Grand Teton National Park that welcomes visitors during the busy summer season. It is housed in the historic Crandall Studio, a structure built in the late 1920s that served as Harrison Crandall's photography studio, where he sold photographs and postcards of the Teton Range as park mementos while serving as the park's official photographer. Today the visitor center serves as an art gallery and museum illustrating the role that art has played in the conservation of the Teton Range. It offers trail information, weather, and other general information; ranger-led programs; an exhibit on art's role in conservation and the National Park Service; a bookstore operated by the Grand Teton Association; and nearby backcountry camping permits and climbing advice at the Jenny Lake Ranger Station.

History

The Jenny Lake Visitor Center is housed in the historic Crandall Studio, a structure built in the late 1920s that served as Harrison Crandall's photography studio. There, Crandall sold photographs and postcards of the Teton Range as park mementos while serving as the park's official photographer. Today the visitor center serves as an art gallery and museum, illustrating the role that art has played in the conservation of the Teton Range. Jenny Lake was the first area developed for recreation in Grand Teton National Park, and since the early 1900s it has been a popular place for hiking, boating, swimming and photography. In 1998, many of the buildings in the South Jenny Lake area were added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Jenny Lake Ranger Station Historic District.
