It is a wholly owned subsidiary of JFE Steel Corporation, the steelmaking arm of the JFE Group, and traces its corporate roots to April 1937, when it was established in Kobe as Kabushiki Kaisha Nunobiki Seisakusho. The present company was formed in April 2016 through the merger of JFE Mechanical Co., Ltd. and JFE Densetsu Co., Ltd., consolidating decades of mechanical and electrical engineering heritage within the Kawasaki Steel and later JFE lineage. The company's core strength is the integrated handling of mechanical and electrical/control technologies. History

The corporate lineage of JFE Plant Engineering begins in April 1937, when a company named Kabushiki Kaisha Nunobiki Seisakusho (株式会社布引製作所) was established in Kobe. In November 1959 it changed its name to Kawasaki Denki Kogyo Co., Ltd. (川崎電機工業株式会社). In April 1978 it absorbed Ikuhama Tekko Co., Ltd. (生浜鉄工株式会社) and adopted the name Kawasaki Steel Structure Industry Co., Ltd. (川鉄鉄構工業株式会社). In July 1994 it was renamed Kawasaki Machinery Co., Ltd. (川鉄マシナリー株式会社). In April 2004, Kawasaki Machinery merged with Maintenance Kiko Co., Ltd. (メンテック機工株式会社) and was renamed JFE Mechanical Co., Ltd. (JFEメカニカル株式会社). A parallel electrical-engineering lineage began in April 1973 with the founding of Kawasaki Electric Facility Construction Co., Ltd. (川鉄電気設備工事株式会社). In January 1987 it was renamed Kawasaki Densetsu Co., Ltd. (川鉄電設株式会社). In April 2004, Kawasaki Densetsu was integrated with the electrical division of Maintenance Kiko and with KDK Elecis Co., Ltd. (ケーディーケーエレシス株式会社) to form JFE Densetsu Co., Ltd. (JFE電制株式会社). In April 2016, JFE Mechanical and JFE Densetsu merged to create JFE Plant Engineering Co., Ltd. (JFEプラントエンジ株式会社), the present entity. This merger combined the mechanical-engineering and electrical/control-engineering traditions of the two predecessor companies into a single organization capable of handling both disciplines in an integrated way. Since its formation, the company has continued to consolidate and reorganize its group network. On April 1, 2022, JFE Mechafront Hanshin Co., Ltd. was dissolved, with its roll-grinding business inherited by JFE Mekatechno Co., Ltd. and its other businesses inherited by JFE Mechafront Kurashiki Co., Ltd. Also on July 1, 2022, JFE Mechafront Chiba Co., Ltd. and JFE Mechafront Keihin Co., Ltd. merged to form JFE Mechafront East Japan Co., Ltd. The company's group now includes JFE Mechafront East Japan, JFE Mechafront Kurashiki, Sanwa Keiden Co., Ltd., JFE Mechafront Fukuyama, JFE Mekatechno, and JFE Mechanical Vietnam Co., Ltd., the last established in September 2011 in Dong Nai Province, Vietnam, for the design and fabrication of machinery and steel structures. Today the company presents itself as a nationwide engineering services provider with six locations, roughly 3,000 engineers and more than 200 certified supervising engineers, serving over 2,500 companies across industries and coordinating the JF Association of 150 member cooperating companies.
