Overview

JMA Management Center (JMAM) is a Japanese company specializing in corporate human-resource development, publishing, and time-management products. It was established in 1991 as a spin-off from the Japan Management Association (JMA), a professional body founded in 1942 to promote industrial efficiency in Japan. JMAM consolidated the JMA's revenue-generating divisions—corporate education, correspondence courses, planners, and publishing—into a single operating company. Its English name is JMA Management Center, and it is commonly abbreviated as JMAM. JMAM operates three main business domains: human-resource development support, publishing, and planners/time-management goods. The human-resource development business includes instructor-led training, correspondence education, e-learning, assessment tools, public seminars, and consulting. Its e-learning service, the "e-Learning Library," offers a flat-rate subscription with roughly 120 courses covering compliance, mental health, management, business skills, and technical fields. The publishing business, one of the oldest activities in the JMA group, produces business books, practical guides, qualification exam materials, and children's books. The planner business is anchored by the NOLTY brand, which succeeded the historic "Nōritsu Techō" (Efficiency Planner), Japan's first business planner with a time scale, introduced in 1949. JMAM is headquartered in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, after moving from Shiodome in 2015. It operates sales offices across Japan and has expanded into Thailand. The company also publishes the monthly journal "Jinzai Kyōiku" (Human Resource Education) and runs the NOLTY Planners subsidiary for corporate planner sales. Its corporate philosophy, refreshed in 2019, centers on "accompanying growth" (seichō ni yorisou), reflecting a commitment to supporting individual development across all life stages. As a brand, JMAM represents a bridge between Japan's post-war management movement and contemporary learning solutions. Its NOLTY planners are widely recognized in Japan as a symbol of time management and personal productivity, while its training and e-learning services serve major Japanese corporations. The company remains privately held within the JMA group and continues to evolve its offerings in response to digital transformation and changing work styles.

History

The history of JMAM is closely tied to the Japan Management Association (JMA), which was founded in 1942 to promote management efficiency in Japanese industry. The JMA began publishing activities in the 1940s, contributing to Japan's post-war industrial recovery. In 1949, the JMA introduced the "Nōritsu Techō" (Efficiency Planner), Japan's first business planner with a time scale, which proposed the concept of managing time through a planner and became a business staple. Corporate sales of the planner began in 1951, followed by retail sales in 1958. In 1962, the "Nōritsu Techō Gold" was released, and in 1969, the JMA standardized management training with the "Management Development Course," marking the full-scale start of its training business. Correspondence education began in earnest in 1979, offering courses such as word processing and computer introduction, as well as business writing and penmanship. In 1986, the JMA started CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) education, a precursor to e-learning. The system planner "Bindex" was launched in 1987, and the monthly journal "Jinzai Kyōiku" (Human Resource Education) was first published in 1989. In 1991, JMAM was established as a separate company, consolidating the JMA's revenue-generating divisions. That same year, the casual planner "PAGEM" was released. In 1995, JMAM began its assessment business, developing the "Assessment Center" to measure management capabilities. The e-learning business started in 2001, and in 2004 the headquarters moved to Higashi-Shinbashi, Minato-ku. In 2010, the e-learning service was revamped into the flat-rate "e-Learning Library," and Nōritsu Techō Planners Co., Ltd. was established to handle corporate planner sales. Public seminars began in 2011. In 2012, the "Production Meister Certification" was launched, and the first book in the "Manga de Yasashiku Wakaru" series was published. A major rebranding occurred in 2013 when the "Nōritsu Techō" was renamed "NOLTY," inheriting its DNA while adopting the new concept of "time design." The company also acquired Shinshūdō Co., Ltd. as a subsidiary and launched CANTACARTA as a new brand for PAGEM. In 2014, Nōritsu Techō Planners changed its name to NOLTY Planners. The headquarters moved to Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku in 2015. In 2019, the corporate philosophy was refreshed around the phrase "accompanying growth" (seichō ni yorisou). In 2020, JMAM began full-scale cross-border learning programs, and in 2021 it expanded into Thailand. Today, JMAM continues to operate its three core businesses—human resource development, publishing, and planners—under the JMA group.
