Its product and service range covers yarn dyeing (crosswound bobbin and hank dyeing), piece dyeing, winding, twisting and the processing of a wide variety of natural and synthetic fibers and blends. Johann Müller AG remains a privately held Swiss company.
History
The history of Johann Müller AG begins in 1845 with the foundation of a yarn and cotton fabric printing mill in a farmhouse in Strengelbach, Switzerland. In 1870, Johann Müller-Wullschleger took over the business of his brother. At that time, manual weaving was the predominant practice in the lower Wiggertal region. Johann Müller-Wullschleger died in 1883, and his widow continued to run the small business, from 1887 together with her son Johann Paul Müller, who would become the founder of the modern dyeing and knitting mill. He later affiliated a yarn bleaching and dyeing mill to the cotton fabric printing mill. The printing mill was closed in the 1920s due to the crisis in the manual weaving business. In 1892, the business relocated 300 meters southward to its current location, near a water source crucial for satisfying the high water needs of the newly affiliated dye house. The dyeing factory could be expanded thanks to the increasing mechanization of the weaving industry, which drove continuously increasing demand for highly colored cotton. In 1892, Johann Paul Müller married Marie Kunz, who had been born in the U.S. and returned to her parents' village; they had 11 children. In 1899, the yarn dyeing process was converted from manual operation to machine dyeing, and the company employed 40 staff members. It acquired its first steam engine, one of the first mercerising machines and its first bleaching system. Specialties already included indigo blue, Turkish red, aniline black and oxidation diamond black. Further milestones include the establishment of a yarn dyeing factory in 1945, a hank dyeing factory in 1945, and a confection division in 1945. Over the 20th and 21st centuries, the company developed into a modern textile finishing operation. Today, Johann Müller AG specializes in the bleaching, dyeing and finishing of yarns, jersey, terry and garments from all dyeable materials. With a dyeing capacity of over 20,000 kg per day, it is one of the most powerful yarn and jersey finishing companies in Switzerland. Its customers include leading international textile and clothing companies, and it focuses on reliability, quality, advanced technology and rapid delivery.
