Overview
ROLLIN, operated by JoinRollin Inc, is an American accessibility intelligence company founded in 2024 and based in the Hudson Valley, New York. The company builds a data layer for physical accessibility at public venues, replacing the binary, often outdated accessibility checkboxes found on mainstream mapping services with a 0–100 score. Each venue is evaluated across six physical accessibility features per door, including wheelchair entry, step-free entry, accessible restroom, accessible parking, wide aisles, and elevator access. Ambient lighting and noise levels are also measured on site by the company's research instruments, branded as ROLLIN Labs. The platform was inspired by founder David Sirota's experience with his father, who has facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD). Repeated phone calls to restaurants and venues to ask about steps, doorway widths, and restroom access often yielded guesses that turned out to be wrong, ending evenings prematurely. ROLLIN aims to make that information reliable, current, and community-verified. ROLLIN's data is refined by the disability community itself — wheelchair users, walker and cane users, families with strollers, and people with sensory needs — whose confirmations and corrections are weighted by each contributor's track record. Independent confirmations and instrument-grade capture move a fact from reported to verified. The company reports over 105,000 venues scored across 15 or 16 US states and 77 regions, with a free iOS app available on the App Store (iOS 17+, no account needed). The app holds a 5.0 rating on the App Store. The company has been featured on Eyewitness News and iHeartRadio, and has partnered with organizations such as Omnium Circus and the FSHD Society. Its roadmap includes a project in Cornwall to create the first "Accessibility-Intelligent Town." ROLLIN positions itself as living data rather than a static dataset, with scores that evolve as venues change.
History
JoinRollin Inc was founded in 2024 in the Hudson Valley, New York, by David Sirota. The impetus was personal: Sirota's father has facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), and every outing — dinners, weekend trips, birthdays — began with a phone call to the venue asking whether there was a step, whether a chair could fit between tables, and what the restroom was like. The answers were often guesses, and sometimes wrong, leading to nights that ended in the car because a wheelchair got stuck at the door. Sirota identified a gap in existing tools. Google Maps offers an accessibility checkbox, but it is binary, frequently years out of date, and uninformative. A venue might have checked the box in 2019; by 2022 the owner had sold, the new owner renovated and added three steps, yet the checkbox remained checked. ROLLIN was built to replace that checkbox with a score. The company developed a standard that evaluates six physical accessibility features per door: wheelchair entry, step-free entry, accessible restroom, accessible parking, wide aisles, and elevator access. These are combined into a single 0–100 score that can be compared across venues. In addition, ROLLIN Labs instruments ambient conditions, measuring lighting from bright to dim, sampling noise levels, and measuring door widths on site. The scoring process has four stages: documentation from multiple sources, scoring across the six features, refinement by the community that actually uses the venues, and verification through independent confirmations and instrument-grade capture. Community contributions are weighted by each contributor's track record, and five trust tiers distinguish reported facts from verified ones. By the time of its public launch, ROLLIN reported over 105,000 venues scored across 15 or 16 US states and 77 regions. The free iOS app, requiring iOS 17+ and no account, became available on the App Store and earned a 5.0 rating. The company has been featured on Eyewitness News and iHeartRadio, and has partnered with organizations including Omnium Circus and the FSHD Society. Its roadmap includes a six-month project in Cornwall to create the first "Accessibility-Intelligent Town."
