Overview

Jomos (stylized JOMOS, from JOhann MOhr Selbitz) is a German shoe manufacturer based in Selbitz in the Franconian Forest of Upper Franconia, Bavaria. The company was founded in 1928 by Johann Mohr and remains a family business, now run by the fourth generation of the Mohr family. It is one of the last shoe factories still producing in Germany, and it markets its footwear under the claim 'Qualität made in Germany seit 1928' (quality made in Germany since 1928). The brand is known for comfortable, well-fitting shoes aimed at people who 'stand firmly in life' — a positioning that emphasizes everyday comfort, durability and optimal fit rather than fashion-forward trends. Jomos develops and produces its shoes at its company headquarters in Selbitz, where it operates what it describes as one of the most modern medium-sized shoe factories in Europe. The product range is broad enough to offer 'the right shoe for every foot', spanning men's and women's footwear, and is sold through specialist retailers, the company's own online shop, and a factory outlet (Werksverkauf) near its Franconian home region. Historically, Jomos grew from a small workshop producing 600 pairs of shoes per year in 1928 into a significant producer of men's shoes. Under Helmut Mohr, who took over in 1970 at the age of 23, annual production rose from around 50,000 pairs to nearly 600,000 pairs, which the company claimed in 2006 was the most men's shoes produced in Germany. Since 2021 the business has been led by Werner Mohr together with his daughters Anne Teutsch-Mohr and Eva-Maria Müller-Mohr. Jomos combines traditional Franconian family entrepreneurship with a clear commitment to domestic manufacturing. Its identity rests on the 'made in Germany' promise, family tradition across four generations, and a focus on comfort and fit. The company also emphasizes Christian values, employee-friendly working hours and fair wages among suppliers, an engagement that was honored in 2011 by the Congress of Christian Executives.

History

Jomos was founded in 1928 by Johann Mohr in Selbitz, in the Hofer Land region of Upper Franconia, Bavaria, at a site on Garlesstraße. In its early years the workshop produced 600 pairs of shoes annually. From 1945 to 1970 the company was led by Johann Mohr's son, Wilhelm Mohr. In 1970 Helmut Mohr took over the Jomos shoe factory from his father at the age of 23. Under his leadership production grew from an interim level of 50,000 pairs to nearly 600,000 pairs per year. According to the company, in 2006 this represented the most men's shoes produced in Germany. Helmut Mohr's commitment to Christian values, employee-friendly working hours and fair wages among suppliers was honored in February 2011 by the Congress of Christian Executives (Kongress christlicher Führungskräfte) with an award. Since 2021 the family business has been led by Helmut Mohr's brother Werner Mohr together with Werner's daughters Anne Teutsch-Mohr and Eva-Maria Müller-Mohr. The company continues to operate its production at its headquarters in Selbitz, describing itself as one of the most modern medium-sized shoe factories in Europe and as one of the last shoe factories still producing in Germany. It markets its shoes under the claim 'Qualität made in Germany seit 1928' and sells through specialist retailers, its own online shop and a factory outlet in the Franconian Forest region.
