JOSEF MEYER Rail is a Swiss railway rolling-stock maintenance company. Its history traces back to Josef Meyer Eisenbau Luzern, founded in 1888 in Lucerne; in 1943 it opened a branch in Rheinfelden, Switzerland, specializing in the production of freight wagons and welded assemblies. With railway liberalization in the 1990s it expanded into rolling-stock maintenance. Today JOSEF MEYER Rail AG operates from sites in Switzerland and Germany, offering ECM services, maintenance, overhauls, repairs, boiler inspections, cleaning, wheelset maintenance and mobile teams (MEQ). In 2022 it took over Waggonservice WSG in Berlin, renamed JOSEF MEYER Rail Maintenance GmbH in 2023; from May 2023 a maintenance hall in Hamburg port serves as JOSEF MEYER Rail Hamburg GmbH; and in mid-2024 JOSEF MEYER Rail Group AG was founded as the holding company.

As part of internationalization, Waggonservice WSG, based in Berlin, was taken over in 2022; the company, specialized in freight wagons and auxiliary vehicles, was renamed JOSEF MEYER Rail Maintenance GmbH in 2023. From May 2023 a modern maintenance hall in the middle of Hamburg port was added, where JOSEF MEYER Rail Hamburg GmbH offers stationary and mobile maintenance services. In mid-2024 JOSEF MEYER Rail Group AG was founded as a holding company that bundles, coordinates and further develops the activities of the individual group companies.
