JUWEL Aquarium AG & Co. KG is a German aquarium manufacturer. According to its official history, the Köhlmoos brothers developed the first aquarium with an aluminium frame in 1966 and introduced the first aquarium with an integral lid and integrated lighting in 1968; the company was officially founded and entered in the Commercial Register in 1969. The company states it has been synonymous with quality and innovation in aquarium manufacturing for 60 years, is represented in over 30 countries, and describes itself as the leading aquarium brand in Europe. Its product range covers aquariums, filtration, lighting, decoration and accessories, including app-controlled products such as the EccoFlow AppControl, SmartFeed AppControl and HeliaLux AppControl.

According to the official JUWEL Aquarium history, the Köhlmoos brothers developed the first aquarium with an aluminium frame in 1966, when aquariums were previously built with hammer effect enamel steel angled frames. In 1968 they introduced a global innovation: the first aquarium with an integral lid and lighting integrated therein. In 1969 JUWEL Aquarium GmbH & Co. KG was officially founded by the Köhlmoos brothers and an entry was recorded in the Commercial Register. In 1970 silicone replaced filler and JUWEL produced the first aquariums with silicone bonding. In 1982 JUWEL developed its waterproof cover light and, as the first manufacturer of aquarium lights, received the GS mark for certified safety from TÜV Rheinland. In 1984 JUWEL produced the first aquariums without lateral profiles and with plastic upper and lower frames. In 1990 it introduced a complete aquarium with an integrated heater, the patented JUWEL filter system and lighting. In 1995 the company moved into new premises in Rotenburg and created its own subsidiary in England. In 1998 it presented the Vision aquarium, the first aquarium in Germany with a curved front panel. In 1999 it introduced electronic ballasts with the lighting. In 2006 it replaced conventional T8 lighting with High-Lite T5 technology. In 2013 it strengthened the JUWEL brand through a modernised market presence and strong product packaging. In 2014 it expanded the company building at the Rotenburg site with an additional production and logistics hall. In 2016 a new SBX design was introduced for all Rio, Lido, Vision and Trigon cabinets.
