Overview

Tsubaki Kabelschlepp GmbH is a German manufacturer of cable carrier systems (energy chains), conveyor systems, and guideway protection systems, headquartered in Wenden, Germany. The company was founded in 1954 as a subsidiary of the machine tool builder WaldrichSiegen, following a 1953 patent by Waldrich's development manager Gilbert Waninger for an energy guiding chain. Kabelschlepp was the first company to bring steel and stainless steel cable carriers to market, and in 1969 it added solid plastic cable carriers. Over the decades it expanded into conveyor and guideway protection systems for industrial applications. The product portfolio includes cable carriers made of steel, stainless steel, solid plastic, and hybrid plastic with aluminium supports, available in standard sizes or tailor-made to customer requirements in millimetre-precision units. The company also supplies TRAXLINE® cables for cable carriers, ready-to-connect cable carrier systems under the TOTALTRAX® brand, and conveyor and protection systems such as telescopic covers, way wipers, link aprons, bellows, spring band spirals, roll-up covers, machine enclosures, and belt and chip conveyors. These products are used in machine tools, robotics, medical technology, shore power systems, aerospace, offshore installations, and heavy industry. In 2007, Kabelschlepp moved its headquarters from Siegen to Wenden in the Sauerland region. In 2011, the company was acquired by the Japanese Tsubakimoto Chain Co., and since 1 January 2012 it has operated as Tsubaki Kabelschlepp. As of the early 2020s, the company employs approximately 380 people at its Wenden-Gerlingen and Hünsborn locations and maintains more than 50 international representatives and subsidiaries, giving it a global presence. It combines the flexibility of a German medium-sized company with the strength of a globally operating group.

History

The origins of Kabelschlepp lie in a 1953 patent filed by the machine tool company WaldrichSiegen for an energy guiding chain invented by its development manager, Gilbert Waninger. In 1954, Kabelschlepp was founded as a subsidiary of Waldrich and became the first company to bring energy guiding chains (initially made of steel and stainless steel) to market. In 1969, the company added solid plastic energy guiding chains to its portfolio. By 2006, Kabelschlepp reported more than 800 employees worldwide across 10 branches and partners in over 40 countries. In early July 2007, it was announced that Kabelschlepp GmbH would move its headquarters from Siegen to the neighbouring town of Wenden in the Sauerland region. The company is one of the largest employers in the municipality of Wenden. In 2011, Kabelschlepp was acquired by the Japanese Tsubakimoto Chain Co., and since 1 January 2012 it has operated under the name Tsubaki Kabelschlepp. As of the early 2020s, the company employs approximately 380 people at its Wenden-Gerlingen and Hünsborn locations, developing and manufacturing technical solutions for customers worldwide. Its products are used in machine tools, robotics, medical technology, shore power systems, and aerospace, with a particular focus on heavy-duty cable carrier solutions for dynamic and harsh operating conditions such as offshore installations or heavy industry. Under the TOTALTRAX® name, Tsubaki Kabelschlepp also offers pre-assembled cable carrier systems. With more than 50 international representatives and subsidiaries, the company maintains a global presence.
