Overview
KCR is a contract research organisation (CRO) that provides clinical trial and consulting services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries. The company was founded in Poland in 1997 by Marek Kiecana as Kiecana Clinical Research, and over nearly three decades it grew into a mid-size international CRO operating across Western and Central-Eastern Europe as well as the United States. Its service portfolio spans clinical trial management, monitoring, pharmacovigilance, clinical trial and drug registration, data management, biostatistics, and quality assurance and control. KCR specialises in Phase I–IV clinical trials of medicinal products and medical devices, and also offers services as a Functional Service Provider (FSP). The company holds Research and Development Centre status granted by the Polish government and the French Crédit d'impôt recherche, and maintains an EN ISO 9001:2008 certificate. Its ICH GCP investigator training was recognised by TransCelerate Biopharma in June 2014 as meeting the organisation's highest criteria. KCR has conducted roughly 400 clinical trials across a wide range of indications during its history. KCR's international expansion included opening KCR U.S. Inc. in the United States in 2010, adding offices in Germany and the United Kingdom in 2014, and establishing the subsidiary KCR Placement, which recruits specialist staff for the pharmaceutical sector. In 2015 the company moved its head office from Warsaw to Berlin. By the mid-2010s it operated in 19 countries and employed more than 300 people. In 2024, ICON plc acquired KCR, integrating the mid-size CRO into one of the world's largest clinical research organisations. ICON, founded in Dublin in 1990, employs almost 40,200 people across 99 locations in 55 countries and provides global expertise in clinical development and commercialisation. The acquisition of KCR expanded ICON's full-service and functional service provision capabilities, particularly in Europe.
