Overview

Keysight Technologies is an engineering technology company headquartered in Santa Rosa, California. It develops and supplies measurement hardware, software, emulators, simulation platforms, and related services used across the electronics and communications industries. Its customers include semiconductor manufacturers, wireless and wireline operators, network-equipment makers, automotive companies, aerospace and defense organizations, data-center operators, energy companies, universities, and research laboratories. The company began operating as an independent public company in 2014 after being separated from Agilent Technologies. Agilent had inherited Hewlett-Packard’s electronic test and measurement operations, including product families whose technical lineage reached back to Hewlett-Packard’s formative decades. Keysight initially carried a strong association with oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, network analyzers, and other laboratory instruments, but subsequently broadened its scope through organic development and acquisitions. Its portfolio now covers the engineering lifecycle from design and simulation through validation, manufacturing, deployment, and network operations. Hardware includes oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, waveform and signal generators, spectrum and wireless analyzers, vector network analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, power analyzers, bit-error-rate testers, digitizers, data-acquisition systems, optical and photonic instruments, and quantum-control equipment. Software includes the PathWave engineering environment, electronic design automation, computer-aided engineering, engineering-data management, software-quality testing, application testing, optical design, and semiconductor-design tools. Keysight also provides network and wireless emulation, including 5G, 6G, non-terrestrial-network, WLAN, IoT, core-network, radio-access-network, and over-the-air testing. Its automotive activities include electric-vehicle, charging, vehicle-network, autonomous-driving, and communications testing. Acquisitions such as Ixia, Eggplant, Scalable Network Technologies, ESI Group, Cliosoft, Riscure, and other specialist businesses expanded the company into network visibility, cybersecurity testing, software quality, digital twins, simulation, data management, and semiconductor security. The brand positions itself as a high-end, technically integrated partner for complex engineering decisions rather than merely an instrument vendor. It works with international standards organizations and supports emerging areas including 5G and 6G, satellite-terrestrial communications, AI data-center infrastructure, high-speed optical interconnects, quantum computing, semiconductor design, digital healthcare, and energy systems. Satish Dhanasekaran has served as president and chief executive officer since 2022. Keysight remains an active, globally operating, S&P 500-indexed public company.

History

Keysight’s corporate lineage runs through Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies. Hewlett-Packard developed a substantial electronic measurement business, producing laboratory and production instruments used in communications, computing, aerospace, defense, and electronics manufacturing. When Agilent was separated from Hewlett-Packard, it inherited those test-and-measurement activities. Keysight was later created from Agilent’s electronic measurement operations and became an independent public company in 2014. At launch, Keysight’s identity centered on precision instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, network analyzers, signal sources, and measurement software. The independent company used that installed base as a platform for a broader engineering-workflow strategy. Rather than limiting its role to physical instruments, Keysight increasingly linked measurement with design, modeling, emulation, validation, manufacturing, and operational monitoring. Acquisitions were central to this expansion. In 2014, the company added Primary Standards North America to strengthen calibration services. In 2015 it acquired Anite, broadening wireless testing, and Electroservices Enterprises, a United Kingdom calibration business. Signadyne followed in 2016, adding modular measurement capabilities associated with photonics and quantum research. The 2017 acquisition of Ixia was a major move into network testing, network visibility, application performance, and cybersecurity testing. Keysight also acquired Scienlab for electronic systems and continued expanding calibration through Liberty Calibration and Thales Calibration Services. Prisma Telecom Testing joined the group in 2019. The company then increased its software emphasis. In 2020 it acquired Eggplant Software, whose tools supported automated software testing and visual validation, and Labber, which focused on quantum-computing instrument control and laboratory automation. During the same period Keysight invested heavily in 5G measurement, high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, wireless emulation, and network simulation. In 2021 it acquired Scalable Network Technologies for modeling and digital-twin capabilities, Sanjole for wireless-data-network testing, Verisco for electric-vehicle charging tests, and Quantum Benchmark for quantum-computing test technology. In 2022, acquisitions of QuaMotion, Micram Microelectronic, and NORDSYS supported quantum technology, high-speed digital systems, and software-defined-vehicle development. The acquisition of ESI Group in 2023 strengthened multiphysics simulation and virtual prototyping, while Cliosoft added engineering-data management. In 2024, Keysight expanded into RF and microwave testing through AnaPico, semiconductor and device security through Riscure, and ASIC design services through Easics. It also agreed to acquire Spirent, a telecommunications testing specialist. The transaction required the divestiture of three Spirent businesses under a U.S. Department of Justice remedy and closed on October 15, 2025 according to the supplied reference material. Keysight’s current strategy combines instruments, software, emulation, and services for rapidly changing technology markets. Its principal growth themes include 5G and 6G, non-terrestrial networks, AI data-center networking, high-speed optical links, automotive and electric mobility, semiconductor design and manufacturing, cybersecurity, quantum computing, energy systems, and aerospace and defense. The company also collaborates with universities, standards bodies, technology vendors, and research institutions. Its later technology work includes quantum-circuit simulation, large-scale quantum-control systems, optical interconnect demonstrations, and satellite-to-mobile network validation. The business remains active and globally distributed, with research and engineering activities in North America, Europe, and Asia.
