Overview

Kiesel Group is a medium-sized, family-owned German corporate group headquartered in Baienfurt in southern Germany. Founded in 1958 by Helmut and Christa Kiesel as a Fuchs service station in Weingarten, the company grew from a two-man operation into a European dealer and service group with more than 1,200 employees and over 45 locations in Germany (around 55 across Europe). It is one of the leading construction and handling machinery dealers in the German-speaking market. The group's core business is the sale, rental and servicing of construction machinery, material handling equipment, quick-coupler systems, attachments and digital assistance systems. Kiesel is a long-standing partner of Hitachi, Bell Equipment and Tobroco-Giant in Germany, and of Fuchs in 17 European countries. Its product range includes excavators, wheel loaders, dump trucks, compact roller trains, telescopic handlers, material handlers, container handling equipment, industrial and recycling cranes, and a wide range of attachments. Kiesel operates through regional companies such as Kiesel Süd, Kiesel Mitte and Kiesel Nord in Germany, plus international subsidiaries in Austria, Scandinavia, Poland and the Czech Republic. The group also runs the Coreum in Stockstadt am Rhein, a construction industry platform and demonstration site, and has developed its own technology and development company, KTEG, which produces special machines and digital assistance systems such as the KTEG CoPilot. Still owned and managed by the Kiesel family, the group emphasizes long-term partnerships, a dense service network and innovation in construction technology. Its history includes numerous acquisitions of regional machinery dealers and the expansion of its Hitachi and Fuchs distribution rights across Europe.

History

Kiesel Group was founded on 26 October 1958 by Helmut and Christa Kiesel as a Fuchs service station on a former agricultural property in Weingarten, southern Germany. Initially the business repaired machines and sold spare parts, later selling used Fuchs excavators before expanding into new machines from various construction equipment manufacturers. In 1970 the company moved to its current 15,000 m² site in Baienfurt near Ravensburg. After the sons Toni, Rainer and Jochen Kiesel joined in the 1980s, the business expanded into new markets and grew to around 100 employees. In 1991 Kiesel expanded into the new German federal states with a branch in Landsberg near Halle, followed by Dresden around three years later. In 1996 Kiesel took over the Fuchs representation in Norway, and in Sweden a year later. In 2002 Kiesel Austria GmbH and Kiesel Nord GmbH in Hamburg were founded. In 2003 Hitachi transferred sales rights for southern Germany to Kiesel. In 2004 Kiesel exhibited for the first time with its own stand at bauma and further expanded its Hitachi sales territory. In 2005 a technology center in Stockstadt am Rhein established technology and service as a separate business area; Kiesel West was founded with a branch in Hürth near Cologne; and Kiesel took over the Munich construction machinery dealer Häfele. In 2006 Kiesel became general distribution partner for Hitachi for all of Germany and acquired the company Preissler with locations in Hildesheim, Osnabrück, Bielefeld and Braunschweig. In 2007 Kiesel moved into the new service headquarters in Baienfurt, acquired Koops Baumaschinen from Hamburg in northern Germany, founded Kiesel Finance GmbH & Co. KG together with LBBW (Südleasing), and established two new regional subsidiaries: Kiesel Südost for Bavaria and Kiesel Mitte for the greater Hesse area. In 2008, after 50 years of cooperation, Kiesel became general importer for Fuchs material handlers in Germany. At that time Kiesel had 24 own locations in Germany, 20 sales and cooperation partners, 9 European sales companies and around 550 employees. In 2009 Kiesel took over Fuchs distribution for Slovakia and the Czech Republic, acquired the traditional construction machinery dealer Ungeheuer in the southwest with locations in Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Freiburg, and at year-end acquired Berobau, the third-largest construction machinery dealer in northern Germany, with 9 locations (Aurich, Lingen (Ems), Osnabrück, Hannover, Bielefeld, Magdeburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Braunschweig) and around 150 employees, growing to 30 own locations. In 2010 the Kiesel Technology and Development Company (KTEG) was founded. In 2011 KTEG received its first patent and Kiesel Abbruch- und Recyclingtechnik (K-ART) was founded. Kiesel received exclusive distribution rights from Fuchs for eight additional countries in Southeastern Europe. In 2012 Kiesel acquired the Franconian construction machinery dealer Reif with four locations (Ansbach, Schwandorf, Hirschfeld, Himmelkron). In the Kiesel Ost region, the acquisition of the construction machinery business of Bausetra added the Potsdam branch, bringing Kiesel to 34 locations in Germany. In the same year, exclusive distribution for Mecalac (Mecalac and Ahlmann brands) and Terex dumpers and dump trucks for Germany was awarded to the Kiesel Group, and Giant loaders were newly added to the program. A central logistics and technology center was built in Stockstadt am Rhein and began operations. In 2014 Kiesel became general distribution partner for Hitachi in Austria, and the used machinery division was incorporated as a 100% subsidiary under the name Kiesel Worldwide Machinery. In 2015 the Hannover branch opened, and Kiesel introduced a new training path, the "Vertriebsspezialist" (sales specialist) program with the IHK. In 2016 Kiesel presented itself at bauma in Munich under the motto "The Road to Success", focusing on KTEG special machines; the regional companies Kiesel Süd and Kiesel Süd-Ost merged. In 2017 Kiesel acquired a majority stake in the Polish Hitachi dealer Tona SP z.o.o. and in Bauma Rent GmbH with locations in Stralsund and Rostock to expand its rental fleet. The groundbreaking ceremony in Stockstadt in July marked the start of the Coreum, an industry platform for the construction sector. The new KTEG was founded from the former subsidiary K-TEG and two other partners. In November 2022, company founder Helmut Kiesel celebrated his 90th birthday. Today the Kiesel Group is organized with three regional companies and a network of 45 branches in Germany, managed by the parent company in Baienfurt near Ravensburg, where management, central purchasing, sales coordination, HR, finance & controlling, marketing and IT are located. Internationally, the Kiesel Group has companies in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and the Czech Republic, among others.
