Overview
Kärntner Landesversicherung (KLV) is a Carinthian insurance company founded in 1899 by a decision of the Carinthian state parliament. It operates as a mutual insurance association (Versicherungsverein auf Gegenseitigkeit) with its head office in Klagenfurt and customer offices across Carinthia. It describes itself as the only Carinthian insurance company and as a universal insurer covering private, business and agricultural insurance needs.
History
On 12 May 1899 the Carinthian state parliament decided to establish the "Kärntnerische Landes-Brandschaden-Versicherungsanstalt", with the aim of supporting Carinthians, especially farmers, who had lost their livelihood through fire; business activity began on 10 September. In 1939 the offering was expanded with "verbundene Versicherung für den Hausrat" for home protection, and two years later burglary, theft, water pipe and storm damage insurance were added. In 1967 the foundation stone was laid for the main building in Klagenfurt, which was completed and occupied in December in the Lidmanskygasse. On 1 July 1971 motor vehicle insurance, legal protection insurance, accident insurance and some further insurances were introduced. In 1980 the company name was changed to "Kärntner Landesversicherung auf Gegenseitigkeit". In 2024 the company celebrated its 125th anniversary.
