History

Komet Group was founded in 1918 by Robert Breuning. In 1924 the company adopted the name Komet, which it has retained since. Over the following decades it built a business in the development, manufacture and sale of metal-cutting tools and related services, establishing itself as a German precision tooling specialist. In October 2017 the Komet Group was acquired by the Luxembourg-based Ceratizit Group and integrated into Ceratizit's Cutting Tools (Zerspanungswerkzeuge) business segment. This brought Komet into a larger hard-material and tooling group. Since 1 March 2021 the Austrian Plansee Group has held the majority stake in Ceratizit, making Komet part of the Plansee corporate family. As part of the ongoing integration into Ceratizit, Komet Deutschland GmbH was renamed Ceratizit Besigheim GmbH with effect from 15 December 2022. The Komet brand continues to be used for cutting-tool products within the Ceratizit portfolio.
