Overview
Lauscherlounge is a German audio-drama publisher and live-event organiser based in Berlin. It was originally founded in 2003 by voice actor and dubbing artist Oliver Rohrbeck, businessman Kai Schenker and radio producer Grischa Sedelke with the idea of staging audio plays and readings live in front of an audience. The first event was a Halloween reading at the Berlin Sage Club featuring Oliver Rohrbeck and Detlef Bierstedt as speakers. The current Lauscherlounge GmbH was established on 23 February 2015, with Oliver Rohrbeck and Kai Schenker as managing directors; its corporate purpose covers publishing, events and games as well as the acquisition and sale of media rights and licences, especially for films, books and audiobooks. A separate Lauscherlounge Veranstaltungen UG (haftungsbeschränkt) was founded on 26 July 2012 to conceive, plan, organise and carry out cultural events, including the marketing and distribution of recordings and programmes, particularly readings, record-release parties and live audio plays. Since 2004 Lauscherlounge has regularly produced live audio plays and staged readings before audiences. Its regular monthly venue is the Alte Kantine in the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, and since 2009 its productions have also toured nationwide. The performers are well-known dubbing and voice actors, accompanied depending on the format by music arrangements by composers Dirk Wilhelm and Henrik Albrecht and by foley artist Jörg Klinkenberg. Recurring formats include the Prima Vista reading with David Nathan and Simon Jäger, alternating with Oliver Rohrbeck and Detlef Bierstedt; because of growing audience interest, the Prima Vista readings moved to the Berlin club SO36 in 2012. Since the end of the legal dispute over the audio-play series Die drei ???, Lauscherlounge Live has also organised record-release parties for new episodes of the series, at which audiences can usually hear the new episode together with Oliver Rohrbeck about a week before its release. On the publishing side, Lauscherlounge Records produces its own audiobooks and audio plays. Well-known series include the detective series Peter Lundt and Richard Diamond, as well as the Handverlesen series read by Andreas Fröhlich and stories by well-known authors read by Jens Wawrczeck. In 2011 the publisher used crowdfunding for the first time to finance an audio-play production: for the Richard Diamond series, which had been discontinued in 2008, two new episodes were produced after supporters raised 6,425 euros within 61 days against a target of at least 5,000 euros, allowing cases 13 and 14 to continue the series. A particular success was the production übernacht, written and directed by Johanna Steiner, which appeared on the audiobook bestseller list in January 2012 and was nominated for the Deutscher Hörbuchpreis 2013 in the category Best Audio Play. Since 2007 Oliver Rohrbeck has also operated his own audio-play studio, Hörspielstudio XBerg, in Berlin-Kreuzberg, where recordings for his own label take place and which other publishers can book to produce their own audiobooks and audio plays. In 2012 Lauscherlounge received the Ohrkanus award in the category Best Label. The company continues to publish new productions and to stage live audio plays, including Die drei ??? live shows and the Mitmachtour.
History
Lauscherlounge was originally founded in 2003 by dubbing and audio-play actor Oliver Rohrbeck, businessman Kai Schenker and radio producer Grischa Sedelke with the idea of staging audio events live in front of an audience. The first event was a Halloween reading at the Berlin Sage Club, with Oliver Rohrbeck and Detlef Bierstedt as speakers. Since 2004 the company has regularly realised live audio plays and staged readings before audiences. Its regular monthly venue is the Alte Kantine in the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, and since 2009 the productions have also been performed nationwide. The protagonists are well-known dubbing actors, accompanied depending on the format by music arrangements by composers Dirk Wilhelm and Henrik Albrecht and by foley artist Jörg Klinkenberg. In addition to recurring events such as the Prima Vista reading with David Nathan and Simon Jäger, alternating with Oliver Rohrbeck and Detlef Bierstedt, Lauscherlounge Live stages readings and live audio plays on various themes. Due to growing audience interest, the venue for the Prima Vista readings was moved to the Berlin club SO36 in 2012. Since the end of the legal dispute over the audio-play series Die drei ???, Lauscherlounge Live has also organised record-release parties for all new episodes of the series, at which the audience can usually hear the new episode together with Oliver Rohrbeck about a week before its release. On 26 July 2012, Lauscherlounge Veranstaltungen UG (haftungsbeschränkt) was founded to conceive, plan, organise and carry out cultural events on its own account and for third parties, including the marketing and distribution of recordings and programmes, especially in the area of readings, record-release parties and live audio plays, with Oliver Rohrbeck and Kai Schenker as managing directors. The current Lauscherlounge GmbH was founded on 23 February 2015. Its corporate purpose is the provision of services in the publishing, event and games sectors, as well as the acquisition and sale of rights and licences to media and media content, in particular films, books and audiobooks; its managing directors are Oliver Rohrbeck and Kai Schenker. With the release of the live audio play Trek nach Westen as a sound recording, Lauscherlounge Records also produces its own audiobooks and audio plays. Well-known series include the detective series Peter Lundt and Richard Diamond, as well as the Handverlesen series presented by Andreas Fröhlich and stories by well-known authors with Jens Wawrczeck. In 2011 the publisher took a new approach to financing an audio-play production for the first time. For the Richard Diamond series, which had been discontinued in 2008, two new episodes were produced with the help of crowdfunding. The goal was to cover part of the production costs with at least 5,000 euros and thereby make it possible to continue the audio-play series with cases 13 and 14. Within 61 days, supporters of the project raised a total of 6,425 euros. Lauscherlounge Records achieved particular success with the production übernacht, which deals with the fates of three people and their crossing paths during a New Year's Eve. The audio play, written and directed by Johanna Steiner, with speakers such as Julia Hummer, Tom Schilling and Fritzi Haberlandt, appeared on the audiobook bestseller list in January 2012. It was nominated for the Deutscher Hörbuchpreis 2013 in the category Best Audio Play. Since 2007 Oliver Rohrbeck has operated his own audio-play studio, where recordings for his own label take place. Other publishers are also offered the opportunity to book the premises and produce their own audiobooks and audio plays. Hörspielstudio XBerg is equipped with two studios and is located in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Audiobooks and audio plays have so far been produced under the direction and according to scripts by, among others, Oliver Rohrbeck, Ivar Leon Menger, Florian Bald, Katja Riemann, Arne Sommer, Kai Schwind, Katrin Wiegand and Johanna Steiner. In 2012 Lauscherlounge received the Ohrkanus award in the category Best Label.
