LAYERTEC GmbH is a German company based in Mellingen that produces high-quality optical components and customized solutions for laser applications. Founded in 1990 as a spin-off of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, it manufactures optics for a wavelength range from VUV (130 nm) to NIR (~7 μm) and combines precision optics manufacturing with advanced coating systems. Its products serve industries including laser research, medical technology, machine tool manufacturing, and semiconductor manufacturing.

LAYERTEC was founded in 1990 as a spin-off of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. Since the early 1990s, its products have been used worldwide in industry, universities, and research institutions. The company combines high-precision optics manufacturing with advanced coating systems such as magnetron and ion beam sputtering, thermal evaporation, and ion-assisted electron beam evaporation. Currently, LAYERTEC employs about 400 people in precision optics manufacturing and operates 45 state-of-the-art coating systems.
