Overview
Lepton Software is an Indian geospatial technology and location intelligence company headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra. Founded in 1994, the company describes itself as answering the question "Where?" for enterprises — and increasingly, what to do about the answer. It combines surveyed geospatial data, software platforms, AI and domain expertise to help organisations plan, build, manage and optimise physical infrastructure across its lifecycle. Lepton's business is organised around three shapes that share one geospatial core: a platform for infrastructure networks (NetworkAccess), standalone products (rfMAP, SmartSignal, Trafficure, SmartMarket, SmartData, neo360, MapInfo Pro, Infovista), and a Google Maps Platform practice. The company states it is Asia's largest Google Maps Platform reseller and a Premier Partner, matching Google Maps APIs to customer use cases, building integrations and supporting them afterwards. Its flagship platform, NetworkAccess, holds a live digital twin of a physical network so that planning, service qualification, build and operations teams all read the same map. It grew up in telecom — with modules such as SmartInventory, SmartPlanner, SmartBuild, SmartOps and SmartSQ — and is marketed beyond telecom to fibre, gas, power and water operators. Lepton also sells primary-surveyed datasets for India through SmartData, sub-meter 3D RF planning data through rfMAP, and city traffic analytics through Trafficure. Lepton reports more than 1,500 enterprise customers and deployments in over 60 countries, with 50 million-plus Indian places mapped. Its proof points include mapping 300,000+ km of fibre and unifying 217,000+ sites for a network operator, and helping Pune move from seeing about 5% of its roads to 964 roads through the TraffiCure traffic platform. The company remains privately held and continues to expand its AI and agent-based offerings.
History
Lepton Software was founded in 1994, at a time when geographic information systems were specialist tools used mainly by mapping and utility professionals. The company's own account of its origins is simple: "Location gives data context." From that starting point it built a business around surveyed geospatial data and the software that makes that data usable by people who are not GIS specialists. Over three decades the company expanded from data and mapping into infrastructure operations. Its flagship platform, NetworkAccess, grew up in telecom, where operators needed a single source of truth for every span, node, splice and drop across a physical network. NetworkAccess evolved into a live digital twin of the physical network, with modules such as SmartInventory (one reconciled record of network assets), SmartPlanner (turning a coverage area into a buildable rollout with routes and bills of material), SmartBuild (capturing position, depth and evidence as crews build, including offline), SmartOps (dispatch, route and track field work against the live network) and SmartSQ (answering whether a given address can be served). Although it grew up in telecom, Lepton markets NetworkAccess to fibre, gas, power and water operators as well. Alongside the platform, Lepton developed standalone products. rfMAP provides sub-meter 3D map data — buildings, vegetation heights, terrain and clutter — for RF planning. SmartSignal and rfMAP serve wireless planning. Trafficure serves city traffic teams. SmartMarket supports expansion and network planning. SmartData provides the underlying primary-surveyed datasets for India, available as licensed data or self-serve APIs. neo360 provides telecom analytics. The company also lists MapInfo Pro and Infovista among its portfolio. A major part of Lepton's business is its Google Maps Platform practice. The company states it is Asia's largest Google Maps Platform reseller and a Premier Partner. It matches Google Maps APIs to customer use cases, builds the integration and stays involved afterwards — the part, it notes, that a licence alone does not cover. This practice connects Lepton to Google's evolving location products, including the Geocoding API v4 release with its SearchDestinations endpoint, AI-powered arrival summaries generated by Gemini, navigation point tokens, and building and compound outlines. By the mid-2020s Lepton reported more than 1,500 enterprise customers and deployments in over 60 countries, with more than 50 million Indian places mapped. Its published proof points include mapping 300,000+ km of fibre and unifying 217,000+ sites for a network operator, delivering a 40% operational efficiency gain, and helping Pune move from seeing about 5% of its roads to 964 roads through TraffiCure, with a 34% average traffic speed improvement and 839,000+ observations in six weeks across 22 junctions. The company has also worked with Samsung, according to its own homepage proof section. Lepton continues to position itself as an intelligence layer across the infrastructure lifecycle — from planning and building to managing and optimising — and has begun adding a layer of agents that acts on its data, platform and intelligence layers.
