Overview

LIHSIN ORCHIDS (立昕蘭場) is a Taiwanese Phalaenopsis orchid nursery and exporter based in Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, in southwestern Taiwan. Founded in July 1993 by Mr. Hsu, the nursery began as a single greenhouse doing domestic contract growing and has grown over three decades into a vertically integrated breeder, propagator and exporter of miniature Phalaenopsis. Its official English name is LIHSIN ORCHIDS, and it is also known as Li Hsin Orchid, LiHsin, and by the related names 立欣蘭園 and 大角星農場. The company specialises in small-pot mini Phalaenopsis in 1.7-inch, 2-inch and 2.5-inch formats. Its assortment is organised into two series — Medium (2.5-inch pot) and Mini (1.7-inch / 2-inch pot) — each covering roughly ten colour groups including white, pink, yellow, orange, red, dark, green, violet-blue and striped flowers. All varieties are described as the nursery's own breeding lines. LIHSIN ORCHIDS manages the full chain from its own variety selection and tissue culture through young plants, mature plants and spiking plants, supported by on-site pre-cooling and standardised packing lines for sea-container export. Production is concentrated in five professional greenhouses, with a sixth under construction, and the nursery reports annual output of more than four million mature export plants. It holds USDA pre-clearance greenhouse qualification for shipments to the United States, and its quality management is data-driven, using pH and EC instrument testing from the tissue-culture stage onward. The company states it has obtained more than 100 RHS grex registrations and 24 of its own Phalaenopsis variety rights, with around twenty more varieties under examination. LIHSIN ORCHIDS operates as a B2B wholesale and export business, supplying importers, wholesalers and professional growers rather than retail customers. Its main export markets are the United States, Canada, the European Union, Japan and South Africa, and by 2018 more than ninety percent of its plants were sold overseas. In May 2023 the company launched a domestic sales brand, 蘭日子, and in January 2026 added a directly operated outlet at the Gukeng rest stop on the national freeway. The nursery is located at No. 29-6, Nanchang Road, Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, and does not currently open to retail or general walk-in visitors; trade visits are by appointment.

History

LIHSIN ORCHIDS was founded in July 1993 by Mr. Hsu in Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, in southwestern Taiwan, where the climate is well suited to Phalaenopsis cultivation. The first greenhouse, known as Plant No. 1, was established that year and initially focused on domestic contract growing, laying the foundation for orchid production in Gukeng. The nursery expanded Plant No. 1 with a second phase in 1995 and a third phase in 1998. In 2001 the company opened Plant No. 2, significantly enlarging its professional greenhouse capacity, and added further phases there in 2003, 2005 and 2007. Plant No. 3 followed, with its first phase in 2009 and a second phase in 2011. From 2013 the nursery began investing in variety selection and research and development, gradually strengthening its ability to supply its own proprietary varieties rather than relying solely on contract production. In 2014 it expanded direct overseas business, increasing direct service to international buyers. Plant No. 4 opened its first phase in 2015 and a second phase in 2017. By 2018 more than ninety percent of the nursery's plants were being sold abroad, making export the core of the business. Plant No. 5 was established in February 2022, and a new office opened in December 2022 to support the expanded operation and international trade. In May 2023 the company launched a domestic sales brand, 蘭日子, and in January 2026 added a directly operated outlet at the Gukeng rest stop on the national freeway. As of 2026 a sixth greenhouse was under construction to further expand professional production capacity. Over three decades the nursery has built a vertically integrated system covering its own variety breeding, tissue culture, young plants, mature plants and spiking plants, with on-site pre-cooling and standardised packing for sea-container export. It reports annual output of more than four million mature export plants, five operating greenhouses, more than 100 RHS grex registrations and 24 of its own Phalaenopsis variety rights, with around twenty more varieties under examination. Its business registration (統一編號 39862201) was approved on 2013-08-08, a commercial registration date recorded separately from the nursery's operating history since 1993.
