The company was born as an academic initiative in 2010 and was formally established in 2013.

History

MetaBiblioteca was born as an initiative from academia in 2010 with the aim of guaranteeing access to quality content for library science students of a Colombian university. In 2013, the idea of creating a company was strengthened to comprehensively support automation processes in national libraries. The company name MetaBiblioteca was chosen, with 'Meta' from the Greek preposition and prefix meta- (μετά-) meaning 'after' or 'beyond', and 'Biblioteca' complementing the prefix to indicate everything about libraries or beyond libraries. Since then, MetaBiblioteca has been strengthened with more than 20 collaborators with interdisciplinary profiles.
