Overview

Mimesis is an Italian publishing house that began in 1987 as a cultural association on the initiative of Pierre Dalla Vigna, with the aim of gathering and spreading ideas animating Italian and European reflection. In 2006 Luca Taddio joined Pierre Dalla Vigna in editorial direction and in the new corporate structure, together creating MIM edizioni srl, the current holder of the "Mimesis" trademark. While maintaining its philosophical orientation, Mimesis expanded its interests to the human sciences and literature. Its catalog comprises 4,000 titles, with 300 new releases per year organized in 140 series, and about thirty journals. Today the Gruppo Mimesis brings together different cultural entities: in Italy the publisher Jouvence and Meltemi Srl; internationally Editions Mimesis and Mimesis International, active in the French and Anglophone (UK/USA) markets respectively, and Mimesis Verlag for the German-language market. The legal and administrative office is in Sesto San Giovanni (Milano), with a branch in Udine.

History

Mimesis was founded as a cultural association in 1987 on the initiative of Pierre Dalla Vigna, with the aim of gathering and spreading the ideas animating Italian and European reflection. In 2006 Luca Taddio joined Pierre Dalla Vigna in editorial direction and in the new corporate structure; together they created MIM edizioni srl, the current holder of the "Mimesis" trademark. While maintaining its philosophical orientation, Mimesis expanded its interests to the human sciences and literature. Its close relationship with the university world and constant exploration of new fields of inquiry have ensured an increasingly vast catalog: 4,000 titles, 300 new releases per year organized in 140 series, evaluated by directors and scientific committees, with over 6,000 professors involved in the various committees and about thirty journals. Today the Gruppo Mimesis brings together different cultural entities: in Italy the publisher Jouvence, dedicated to history, literature and intercultural reflection, and the publisher Meltemi Srl, recently reborn with a catalog dedicated in particular to anthropology, sociology and new media. Internationally there are Editions Mimesis and Mimesis International, active in the French and Anglophone (UK/USA) markets respectively. Mimesis Verlag is the new brand conceived for the German-language publishing market.
