Overview

Mirgor is an Argentine diversified industrial and commercial group whose activities span consumer electronics, automotive components, engineering, distribution, retail, technical services, logistics and agribusiness. The company administers its operations from Buenos Aires and has industrial facilities in Río Grande, Garín and Baradero, together with agricultural and livestock operations in Bolívar. Its principal industrial footprint is associated with Tierra del Fuego, where it manufactures and assembles products for domestic and international partners. Founded in 1983 by Nicolás Caputo, Roberto Gustavo Vázquez and Mauricio Macri, Mirgor initially concentrated on automotive air-conditioning systems. Its first market product was an air conditioner developed for the Peugeot 504 and supplied to Sevel, at a time when air conditioning was uncommon in Argentine vehicles. This initial automotive specialization became the foundation for a broader manufacturing platform. Following the Argentine economic crisis and subsequent restructuring between 1998 and 2002, the company expanded into household air conditioners and mobile phones, later adding televisions, audio and video equipment, microwaves and notebooks. A major step in this development was the 2009 acquisition of Industria Austral de Tecnología S.A. (IATEC). Through IATEC, Mirgor produced mobile phones for Nokia, televisions for LG, and later devices and electronics for Samsung and other international partners. The group also developed automotive electronics capabilities, including infotainment systems and control modules. Its commercial activities expanded through distribution, branded Samsung retail operations in Argentina and the Diggit retail business. Ferbi supports equipment refurbishment, after-sales services, protection services, repurchase and exchange programs. Mirgor has progressively diversified beyond manufacturing. It established an innovation division for software, systems and mechanical-engineering projects; developed supply-chain and distribution services; and entered agribusiness in 2018. It began exporting wheat, soybeans and corn in 2019, acquired the Sauceco agricultural operation in 2023 and developed its own agricultural and livestock production in San Carlos de Bolívar. The group has also pursued regional distribution, aftermarket services and international cellular-device supply activities through offices and subsidiaries in South America, the United States and Panama. The automotive business includes climate-control systems, infotainment and electronic control products. Mirgor has been developing the ONTEC facility in Baradero for complex appearance and special parts that combine plastic and electronic components. In addition, the group has explored aerospace components through an agreement with Argentina's state aircraft manufacturer FAdeA and logistics infrastructure through proposed port and air-cargo projects in Tierra del Fuego. Mirgor works with global brands and industrial customers including Samsung, Toyota, Ford, Fiat, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. Its business model combines contract and partner manufacturing, domestic retail, third-party distribution, technical services, engineering, agricultural exports and international commercialization. The group also operates the Mirgor Foundation, established in 2022, which supports education, health, culture and habitat initiatives in communities connected to its operations. Mirgor remains an active Argentine group with a broadening international and sectoral footprint.

History

Mirgor was established in 1983 by Nicolás Caputo, Roberto Gustavo Vázquez and Mauricio Macri. Vázquez brought automotive-industry experience from Ford, and the company began operations in Río Grande by producing vehicle air-conditioning systems. Its first commercial product was a Peugeot 504 air conditioner designed for Sevel. Macri sold his shares in 1994 and left Mirgor's board in 1996. The company began trading shares on the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange in 1994 and was also listed on the London Stock Exchange. After the Argentine economic crisis of 1998–2002, Mirgor restructured and broadened its activities. It entered household air conditioners in 2004 and moved into mobile-phone production as cellular communications became an important new market. In 2009, Mirgor acquired IATEC. The subsidiary produced Nokia mobile phones in 2010, LG televisions in 2011, and audio-video equipment and microwaves from 2012. Dell notebook production followed in 2013. In 2014, IATEC began assembling Samsung mobile phones and televisions and producing automotive electronics for Pioneer. Mirgor formed GMRA in 2017 for consumer-electronics and electrical products. That year it also obtained IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 certifications; its electronics operations are described as holding IPC-A-610 Class 3 certification. José Luis Alonso became group CEO in 2016. The group continued its automotive expansion through the 2019 acquisition of Famar Fueguina, a holding company connected with Holdcar and Electrotécnica. The acquired activities centered on manufacturing and supplying automotive parts, particularly electronics. Mirgor entered agribusiness in 2018 and began exporting agricultural commodities in 2019. It later acquired Sauceco and approximately 1,500 hectares in San Carlos de Bolívar for agricultural and livestock production. Mirgor's technology and communications activities expanded through the 2020 acquisition of Brightstar's Argentine subsidiary. During the pandemic, it developed OxiTemp, an application intended to monitor oxygen saturation, heart rate and body temperature. In 2021, it agreed with FAdeA to promote aerospace-component development and production in Tierra del Fuego. In 2022, it acquired Outokumpu Fortinox, presented a Río Grande port proposal and agreed with Aerolíneas Argentinas to pursue cargo operations. From 2023 onward, Mirgor intensified international and infrastructure initiatives. It expanded cellular supply operations into the United States through Mirgor USA LLC, developed offices and activities in Paraguay, entered Uruguay through the acquisition of Anovo, and began operations in Panama. It also supported regional Samsung SmartThings stores and became a strategic Hisense partner in Uruguay. In Argentina, it continued developing ONTEC in Baradero for complex automotive parts and pursued the Río Grande port project. The group issued negotiable debt in 2023 and announced a Meliá hotel project in Ushuaia in 2024. Alongside its commercial activities, Mirgor established the Mirgor Foundation in 2022. The foundation's programs cover education, health, culture and habitat, including technical training, innovation competitions, scholarships, donations of medical equipment, support for Antarctic communities and sustainable housing initiatives. Mirgor's current identity is therefore that of a diversified industrial group rather than a single-product manufacturer, combining contract manufacturing, automotive systems, retail, distribution, services, exports, infrastructure and community programs.
