History
Mission Produce traces its beginnings to 1983 in California, when produce industry veterans and avocado growers Steve Barnard and Ed Williams began selling fresh California avocados in the U.S. In 1985, the company expanded south with the construction of two packinghouses in Michoacán, Mexico, opening the door to new markets in Asia, Europe, and Canada. Between 1993 and 1997, Mission Produce kicked off the first of its avocado ripening trials and helped bring avocados from Mexico to the U.S. for the first time. In 1998, it rolled out its first ripe avocado programs to the industry. From 2000 to 2010, its sourcing network went global across premier growing regions.
