Overview

Mondigromax, cultius de cultura is a Barcelona-based performing arts production and touring company founded in 2001 by Dietrich Grosse, a German dancer, cultural manager and executive producer who has lived in Barcelona since 1979. The company was created to bring together Grosse's various interests and passions under one roof, together with the vital complicity and emotional support of Montse Majench. Its stated purpose is to promote new opera and dance creations on stage and, in parallel, to accompany dance and ballet companies from around the world in search of new theatres or festivals where they can find new audiences. Mondigromax describes its task as researching the creative fabric, detecting special creative seeds, and stimulating the production of innovative and quality projects. It is involved in the gearing of creation, its exhibition, and the distribution of works, channelling the affinities of the cast involved in the performing arts: artists, programmers, communicators, administrators and spectators. Body and dance were at the origin of the project, from dancer to manager and on to executive producer. The company operates as a link between the artistic concerns of creators and the realisation of their works. Its touring roster has included Gauthier Dance Company – Theaterhaus Stuttgart, Israel Galván, Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, MegStuart – Damaged Goods, SashaWaltz & Guests, Ballett der Semperoper Dresden, Iceland Dance Company, Quasar Cia. de Dança, Sebastian Weber Dance Company, NND:Galili Dance, Aterballetto, Balé da Cidade de São Paulo, Sydney Dance Company, Ballet Gulbenkian, Ballet BC Vancouver, Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg and Wiener Staatsballett, among others. It has also been involved in opera productions at houses such as Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Polish National Opera, Opernhaus Halle, Nationaltheater Mannheim and Neuköllner Oper Berlin. Mondigromax is a private company, Mondigromax SL, based in Barcelona. It remains active in international dance and opera touring, with announced engagements including Ballet BC's Winterthur debut and Austrian performances in September 2026, and Gauthier Dance Company's ELEMENTS at the Maestranza in Seville in April 2026.

History

Mondigromax, cultius de cultura was born in 2001 by the initiative of Dietrich Grosse, acting as a link between the artistic concerns of the creators and the realization of their works. Body and dance were at the origin, from dancer to manager and moving on to executive producer. The company was created to accommodate under one roof the various branches of Dietrich Grosse's interests and passions, together with Montse Majench's vital complicity and emotional support. Dietrich Grosse is a German who has lived in Barcelona since 1979, following the footsteps of master Andrzej Leparski, who was teaching mime and body movement at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, a centre attraction for young people from all over Europe in the 1980s, where the young creators of the moment, years later would be world-renowned artists, such as La Fura dels Baus. There he obtained a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts, as well as a Higher Degree in Dance. As a result of the Cultural Olympiad, he went to Berlin in 1993, a few years after the fall of the Wall (1989), where he graduated as cultural manager at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler". He would complete his training with a Course in Economie et Financement de la Culture at the Paris-Dauphine University, invited by the French Ministry of Culture. Proud to say "I was dancer", he took part in numerous choreographic works, and together with Juan Carlos García, Dietrich Grosse founded Lanonima Imperial (1986). When they started, it was the first male contemporary dance company in Barcelona and its choreographies were innovative and surprising and they achieved a certain success. At this point, Dietrich Grosse went from dancer to manager and executive producer of Lanonima Imperial until 2001. Since its founding, Mondigromax has focused on promoting new opera and dance creations on stage and, in parallel, accompanying dance and ballet companies from around the world in search of new theatres or festivals where they can find new audiences. Its task consists of researching the creative fabric, detecting special creative seeds, and stimulating the production of innovative and quality projects. The company is involved in the gearing of the creation, its exhibition, and distribution of the works, channelling the affinities of the cast involved in the performing arts: artists, programmers, communicators, administrators, and spectators. Over the years, Mondigromax has built an international touring roster that includes Gauthier Dance Company – Theaterhaus Stuttgart, Israel Galván, Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, MegStuart – Damaged Goods, SashaWaltz & Guests, Ballett der Semperoper Dresden, Iceland Dance Company, Quasar Cia. de Dança, Sebastian Weber Dance Company, NND:Galili Dance, Aterballetto, Balé da Cidade de São Paulo, Sydney Dance Company, Ballet Gulbenkian, Ballet BC Vancouver, Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg and Wiener Staatsballett.
