Overview

Morpho, Inc. is a Japanese research-and-development-oriented technology company founded in May 2004 by engineers from the University of Tokyo. Headquartered in Tokyo, the company specializes in digital image processing and artificial intelligence, branding its core focus as "Imaging AI" — the fusion of advanced image processing algorithms with deep learning. Morpho develops software products that are licensed to smartphone manufacturers, semiconductor companies, automotive suppliers, and broadcasters worldwide. The company's flagship technologies include PhotoSolid® (6-axis image stabilization for still images), MovieSolid® (4-axis video stabilization), SoftNeuro® (a high-speed deep learning inference engine), Morpho Visual Calibrator™ (auto-calibration for multi-camera systems), and Morpho Semantic Filtering™ (AI-based image segmentation and retouching). Morpho's software has achieved cumulative license shipments exceeding 3 billion units as of 2019, reflecting its deep penetration into the global smartphone market. Morpho was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market in July 2011. It has formed capital and business alliances with major corporations including NTT Docomo, Denso, and H.U. Group Holdings (formerly Miraka Holdings). The company has expanded globally with subsidiaries in the United States (Morpho US, Inc., 2012), South Korea (Morpho Korea, Inc., 2013), China (Morpho China, Inc., 2018), and Taiwan (Morpho Taiwan, Inc., 2020), as well as acquiring Finnish AI company Top Data Science Ltd. in 2018. Morpho's business model centers on software licensing, generating revenue through royalties based on device shipment volumes, support income for porting and maintenance, and development income from custom research. The company positions itself as a de facto standard provider of next-generation digital image processing frameworks across embedded devices and various platforms.

History
