Overview
Nachti is a German music festival brand focused on techno, house, and electronica. It originated in 1998 as Nachtdigital, a small, family-oriented event held at the Schullandheim Olganitz (Bungalowdorf Olganitz) in Dahlen, Saxony. The festival was founded by a crew of around 20 people and supported by roughly 200 helpers. Over the years, it gained a strong reputation in the electronic music scene for its intimate atmosphere, carefully curated lineup, and limited capacity of about 3,000 attendees. The event was known for selling out extremely quickly—in 2015, tickets were gone within two minutes. After a final edition under the Nachtdigital name in August 2019, the crew revived the festival in July 2022 as Escape to Olganitz, and since August 2023 it has been held biennially under the name Nachti. A winter sister festival, Nachtiville, was held in 2015, 2023, and 2024. The crew also operates its own record label and organizes music events outside the festival grounds, extending the brand's reach. The next edition, Nachti Festival 2027, is scheduled for 30 July to 1 August 2027 at Bungalowdorf Olganitz, with a presale registration currently open. The brand also engages in touring, such as the 'NACHTI ON TOUR' event with Bassiani in Tbilisi on 25 September 2026.
History
The festival was first held in August 1998 under the name Nachtdigital, organized by a crew of around 20 people with the help of about 200 volunteers. It takes place at the Schullandheim Olganitz (Bungalowdorf Olganitz) in Dahlen, Saxony. The name Nachtdigital is a play on the German word for nightingale (Nachtigall). In the early years, only day tickets were sold, making attendance highly dependent on weather. In 2005, rain kept visitors away and financial problems threatened to end the festival. For 2006, the crew took out a loan and changed the concept under the motto 'Nummer 9 lebt!' (Number 9 lives!), which turned it into a success with a full site. From 2007, attendance was capped at about 3,000 to maintain a family-like atmosphere. The festival became extremely popular in the electronic music scene: in 2013, tickets sold out within 2 hours; in 2010 it took 6 days, in 2011 only 6 hours, and in 2015 just 2 minutes. In recent years, tickets were not as rapidly sold out, and in 2018 the festival was not completely sold out after several years. A documentary film, 'Escape To Olganitz', released in 2014, followed the 2011 edition from December 2010 to the end of August 2011 and was shown at the Trieste Film Festival in 2015. Over the years, DJs and artists such as Clara Moto, Move D, DJ Koze, Ricardo Villalobos, Dixon, James Holden, Michael Mayer, Mathias Kaden, Stephan Bodzin, Die Vögel, and Brandt Brauer Frick performed. Daniel Stefanik and Manamana, as well as booker Steffen Bennemann, were influential. For the 20th anniversary in 2017, the Nachtdigital crew went on an anniversary tour through Leipzig, Berlin, Hamburg, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. The festival was last held under the name Nachtdigital in August 2019. At the end of July 2022, the crew revived it as 'Escape to Olganitz', which sold out with 2,000 visitors. Since August 2023, it has been continued under the name Nachti and is held every two years with a maximum of 3,000 visitors. A winter sister festival, Nachtiville, was held in November 2015 at Wasserpark De Eemhof in Zeewolde, Netherlands; a continuation failed due to a cancellation by the venue. From 2021, Nachtiville was to be revived at Weißenhäuser Strand, but after two postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it took place in January 2023 with 3,000 visitors. After a repeat in January 2024 with 60% capacity utilization, the 2025 edition was cancelled due to insufficient ticket sales. The last two editions were held at the Subtropisches Badeparadies water park on 6 indoor floors. The Nachtdigital crew also runs its own record label, which has released items such as Robag Wruhme's 'Olgamikks' (mix CD, 2012), 'Nachti Color' by Metaboman and Large M / Barnt (2013), the documentary 'Escape To Olganitz' (2014), and the book 'Zum Bungalowdorf 1 – A Nachtdigital book' by Christian Rothe (2021).
