Overview

Nadace Experientia is an independent Czech foundation dedicated to advancing science, research and education in organic chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and related fields. It was founded in 2012 by Hana Dvořáková and Dalimil Dvořák. In January 2020 the couple donated 200 million Czech korunas to the foundation, funds derived from licences for anti-HIV drugs. Hana Dvořáková worked in the group of Professor Antonín Holý between 1986 and 1996 and participated in the preparation of compounds that became the basis of a new generation of medicines. The foundation organizes its work into six main programs. Zahraniční stáže (Foreign Fellowships) finances one-year stays at prestigious universities worldwide for scientists up to 35 years of age in organic, bioorganic or medicinal chemistry. Start-up granty (Start-up Grants) provides three-year financial support totalling 6.6 million Czech korunas, enabling young scientists returning from abroad to establish their own independent research group in the Czech Republic. Bezva chemie is a grant program focused on popularizing chemistry in primary and secondary schools, with funds used to purchase laboratory equipment, chemicals and to implement projects that make chemistry more attractive to pupils. Cena Rudolfa Lukeše (Rudolf Lukeš Prize) is a prestigious award for excellent results in organic chemistry, granted in cooperation with the Czech Chemical Society. Via Chimica is an award for professional work in chemistry for talented bachelor's and master's students, granted in cooperation with the Learned Society of the Czech Republic. Učitelé učí učitele (Teachers Teach Teachers) is an educational program built on sharing good practice among educators, supporting methodological seminars and workshops; the program is organized by the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (VŠCHT). Through these programs the foundation supports young scientists, chemistry teachers and talented students, and contributes to the development of Czech chemistry. Its activities include annual competitions for foreign fellowships, start-up grants and the Bezva chemie grant, as well as the publication of annual reports. The foundation also runs the Chemical Centre of the Experientia Foundation, which has supported five Chemical Centres of the Učitelé učí učitele program at VŠCHT for four years.

History

Nadace Experientia was founded in 2012 by Hana Dvořáková and Dalimil Dvořák as an independent Czech foundation. Its origins are closely tied to the career of Hana Dvořáková, who worked in the group of Professor Antonín Holý between 1986 and 1996 and participated in the preparation of compounds that became the basis of a new generation of medicines. In January 2020 the couple donated 200 million Czech korunas to the foundation, funds derived from licences for anti-HIV drugs. This substantial endowment allowed the foundation to expand its support for Czech chemistry. The foundation structures its activities around six main programs. Bezva chemie is a grant program focused on popularizing chemistry in primary and secondary schools, with funds used to purchase laboratory equipment, chemicals and to implement projects that increase the attractiveness of chemistry for pupils. The foundation continues to run annual competitions for foreign fellowships and start-up grants, and publishes annual reports. It also supports the Chemical Centre of the Experientia Foundation, which has supported five Chemical Centres of the Učitelé učí učitele program at VŠCHT for four years. Through these activities, Nadace Experientia contributes to the development of Czech chemistry by supporting young scientists, teachers and talented students.
