Overview

NETZSCH Group is a mid-sized, family-owned German company engaging in the manufacture of machinery and instrumentation with worldwide production, sales, and service branches. Its three business units — Analyzing & Testing, Grinding & Dispersing and Pumps & Systems — develop products for nearly every industry and country around the world. The group reports more than 4,800 employees, 210 locations around the globe, and sites in 36 countries. It is now in its fifth generation of family leadership, and the group consists of three business units under the umbrella of the Erich Netzsch B.V. & Co. Holding KG. What began in 1873 as a small workshop for firefighting pumps has evolved into a globally active enterprise.

History

NETZSCH was founded in 1873 by Thomas Netzsch and his brother Christian in Selb (Upper Franconia, Germany). The first products were pump wagons for extinguishing fires and agricultural machines. In 1890, special machines for the ceramics industry were developed and produced, following the establishment of the first porcelain factories in the Selb area. In 1896, the machines received their first awards in Nuremberg and Munich for their quality. Following the death of his father, Gustav Netzsch took over management of the company in 1901. In 1905, a branch was founded in Asch (Bohemia) for duty-free supply to the Austro-Hungarian economic area. In 1929, Erich Netzsch, son of Gustav Netzsch, took over management, and in 1931 the company headquarters was moved from Selb to Asch. At the start of World War II in 1939, NETZSCH had 200 employees in Asch. After the end of the war, the factory in Asch had to be given up and rebuilding began in Selb in 1946. Production of the Mohnopumps (NEMO® Pumpen) began in 1952, and in 1958 manufacture and sales of the Mohno pumps moved to Frankfurt am Main (Germany), with the founding of Gebrüder NETZSCH Maschinenfabrik in Linz (Austria). In 1962, NETZSCH-Vertriebs-Gesellschaft mbH and NETZSCH-Gerätebau GmbH were founded in Selb (Germany). With more than 150 years of history, the NETZSCH Group describes continuous development work and a conscientious management team as securing consistency in a familiar hand; at present, the 5th generation has assumed managerial responsibility. The company's history is presented in phases: 1873–1939 Founding, 1969–1998 Build-up, and since 1999 Growth.
