Overview
Noom Records is a German independent record label specialising in techno, trance and acid music. It was founded in July 1993 in Neckargemünd as an independent label of the Under Cover Music Group (UCMG), whose managing director Joachim Keil also ran the well-known techno labels Time Unlimited and Plastic City. Releases were initially distributed through MMS Euro and Intergroove. Alongside Keil, A&R manager Tom Weyer — already known as the DJ Commander Tom — shaped the label's musical direction, and his numerous Noom releases helped him achieve an international breakthrough. From the outset the label also attracted artists and producers such as Mark N-R-G (Overdrive Records), Ramin (R&S, Harthouse), Oliver Lieb (Harthouse, Superstition), Raymund Boyé (Suck Me Plasma, R&S) and DJ Tandu. Through a distinctive and homogeneous style, Noom Records defined and established itself within the techno scene. According to the label's own presentation, Noom Records was one of the most successful and influential techno, trance and acid labels of the 1990s. It stood for trends such as hardtrance, acid-trance, acid and techno. In England, and somewhat later in the USA, Noom Records also released the "Hoover-Sound Hype", which in turn influenced labels such as Prolekult Records (UK) and Bonzai Records (Belgium). The label's biggest hit to date is the title "Commander". When the Under Cover Music Group filed for insolvency in summer 2003, parts of the group passed to Holophon (formerly Mole Music GmbH), but the purchase was reversed. The rights lay with Daredo in Mannheim between July 2004 and October 2017. In November 2017 the company of Joachim Keil, UCM.ONE GmbH from Berlin, bought the rights, bringing the label back into Joachim Keil's hands after more than 15 years. Today Noom Records is one of the music labels in the UCM.ONE portfolio, alongside Harthouse, Plastic City, Mole Listening Pearls and others, and its catalogue is marketed physically and digitally through UCM.ONE's distribution and rights-management operations.
