Norbrook

Norbrook is a veterinary pharmaceutical company established in 1969 in Newry, Northern Ireland, UK, by the late Lord Ballyedmond. It describes itself as one of the largest family-owned veterinary pharmaceutical companies in the world and a top 20 global manufacturer of veterinary pharmaceuticals. The company manufactures differentiated generic animal health pharmaceuticals for large and companion animals, operates five manufacturing sites globally, holds over 3,000 product registrations, and exports to more than 100 countries. Its product range covers cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, dogs, and cats.

Norbrook Laboratories Limited was founded in 1969 by the late Lord Ballyedmond in Newry, Northern Ireland. In 1970 the company commenced the manufacture of veterinary pharmaceuticals, initially in Bessbrook Mill, and later acquired larger premises at Greenbank in Newry. In 1972 it commenced the manufacture of veterinary products at the Greenbank Industrial Estate in Newry, with construction assisted by the Local Enterprise Development Unit (LEDU). In 1974 the first Norbrook patent was granted, signalling the start of its export business drive. In 1976 Norbrook won a major contract with Dutch company Philips Duphar. By 1978 it had increased international distribution, selling across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Canada while increasing market share in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In 1979 it acquired a further manufacturing premises at Station Works in Newry. In the 1980s it expanded into Japan. In 1987 it received approval from the US FDA.
