Overview
Nuckolls Brewing Co. is a New Mexico brewery and taproom operator with locations in Santa Fe, Lamy, and Angel Fire. Its taps feature a core beer lineup, seasonal brews, offerings from local New Mexico breweries, and internationally inspired beers. The original building was constructed as a meatpacking outpost for Nuckolls Packing Co. of Pueblo, Colorado, and later housed various local enterprises, including a publishing house, a local indie radio station, and the corporate headquarters of the Santa Fe Southern Railway.
History
The original Nuckolls Brewing building was built as a meatpacking outpost for Nuckolls Packing Co. of Pueblo, Colorado, insulated with thick concrete walls covered with four inches of cork to create a refrigeration facility for storing Nuckolls' meat products. Between its original use as a meat packing facility and its current life as a brewpub, the building housed a range of local enterprises, from a publishing house to a local indie radio station, and most notably served as the corporate headquarters for the Santa Fe Southern Railway. As the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad was being built through New Mexico in the late 1870s, the railroad bypassed Santa Fe due to difficult terrain and created a stop in Lamy, a small village on the Galisteo River basin 18 miles from Santa Fe; Santa Fe residents rallied and raised funds to build an 18-mile spur line from Lamy into Santa Fe.
