Overview
Bodega Numanthia is a Spanish winery founded in 1998, located in Valdefinjas, Castilla y León, in the northwest of Spain and to the east of Salamanca. It produces fine red wines from the Tempranillo Tinta de Toro grape, grown organically and dry-farmed in sandy, rocky soils. Its wines include Termes, Numanthia and Termanthia.
History
Bodega Numanthia was founded in 1998 and is located in Valdefinjas, Castilla y León, in the northwest of Spain and to the east of Salamanca. The estate presents itself as a living tribute to the fearless warriors of Numancia, an ancient Celtic community that lived in North Spain more than 2000 years ago and heroically resisted the Roman army for 20 years in 134 B.C. Its vineyards are described as planted by pioneer families centuries ago, back in Roman times, and as having shown resilience since then; by the end of the Middle Ages, Toro wines were the first in the world to travel to the Americas, carried on Christopher Columbus' ships in 1492. The estate's vineyards consist of over a hundred small plots, with some vines dating back 200 years, and are managed organically and manually, avoiding pesticides and using dry-farming techniques.
