Overview

NUR.KZ is a Kazakhstan IT company founded on 4 March 2009 with headquarters in Almaty, owning the NUR.KZ information agency. Its founder entity is TOO «Internet Portal Nur», and its general director is Bakhridinov Kuat Gabdulmukhtarovich. The company states its goal is to build an ecosystem of services on the basis of media. At founding, NUR.KZ was the first internet project in Kazakhstan to call itself a "portal" and to follow internet-journalism conventions rather than newspaper clichés; the site then had more than 20 thematic sections and services. Within two years it became the most visited internet portal of Kaznet according to Alexa.com and Zero.kz ratings, with monthly audience reaching 3.5 million users at that time. On 5 September 2011 it launched a Kazakh-language version of the site and the Android app "Новости Казахстана – Nur.kz"; six years later mobile app downloads exceeded 1 million. In 2013 its editorial team was the first among media to systematically work with Facebook and Vkontakte; two years later its pages became among the largest among Kazakh companies: Facebook 40 thousand subscribers, Vkontakte 200 thousand subscribers. In 2016 it was first to launch Instant Articles in Facebook, was entrusted to create a special project about the President, and became an official partner of YouTube in Kazakhstan, receiving a multi-channel network license. A year later it became a pioneer in Kaznet in launching AMP, Google's page-loading technology; at that time readers left 500 thousand comments monthly under its articles. In early 2017 it launched a pilot version of the special project "Голос народа".
