Overview
Object Software Limited is a Chinese entertainment software developer focused on PC games and online PC games. According to its official website, the company was founded in 1995 and operates a development studio in the Haidian District of Beijing through its wholly owned subsidiary, Object Software (Beijing) Co., Ltd, with a staff of over 150. It develops single-player PC games and, through its affiliate Beijing Object Online Technology Corporation (Object Online), operates online PC games in Mainland China. Since its inception, Object Software has developed six single-player PC games: Hooves of Thunder (1995), Metal Knight (1998), Fate of the Dragon (2000), Dragon Throne: Battle of Red Cliffs (2001), Prince of Qin (2002), and Seal of Evil (2004). It has also developed four online PC games: World of Qin (2003), World of Qin 2 (2005), Dragon Throne Online (2006), and World of Qin 2: Phoenix Dancing (2006). All four online games are operated in Mainland China by Object Online. The company's online titles are localized under Chinese names for the domestic market. World of Qin 2: Phoenix Dancing is a 2.5D free-to-play MMORPG available in Mainland China as Feng Wu Tianjiao. Dragon Throne Online is a 3D free-to-play MMORPG available as Ao Shi Online. World of Qin 2 is a 2.5D subscription MMORPG and prequel to World of Qin, available in Mainland China as Tianjiao 2 and also operated in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland by gamigo AG. World of Qin is a 2D free-to-play MMORPG available in Mainland China as Tianjiao. Seal of Evil is an action RPG prequel to Prince of Qin, set in the last years of the Warring States Period. Object Software is recognized as one of the earliest game development companies in Mainland China. Its historical single-player titles, particularly Prince of Qin and Seal of Evil, are action RPGs with Chinese historical settings, while its online games are MMORPGs that have been operated in China and, in one case, in German-speaking Europe. The company remains active in game development and online game operation.
History
Object Software was founded in 1995, making it one of the earliest game development companies in Mainland China. Its first single-player PC game, Hooves of Thunder, was released in the same year. The company continued to develop single-player PC titles throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, including Metal Knight (1998), Fate of the Dragon (2000), Dragon Throne: Battle of Red Cliffs (2001), Prince of Qin (2002), and Seal of Evil (2004). These games were primarily action RPGs and strategy titles, often set in Chinese history. In the early 2000s, Object Software expanded into online PC games. It developed World of Qin (2003), a 2D free-to-play MMORPG, followed by World of Qin 2 (2005), a 2.5D subscription MMORPG and prequel. In 2006, it released two more online games: Dragon Throne Online, a 3D free-to-play MMORPG, and World of Qin 2: Phoenix Dancing, a 2.5D free-to-play MMORPG. All four online games were operated in Mainland China by its affiliate, Beijing Object Online Technology Corporation (Object Online). The company operates a development studio in the Haidian District of Beijing through its wholly owned subsidiary, Object Software (Beijing) Co., Ltd, with a staff of over 150. Its online games have been localized under Chinese names for the domestic market, such as Tianjiao, Tianjiao 2, Ao Shi Online, and Feng Wu Tianjiao. World of Qin 2 was also licensed to gamigo AG for operation in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Object Software remains active in game development and online game operation.
